i have an unregistered, undriveable 69 beetle, i want to get from scoresby to rowville (3k's or so down the road) in a straight line, my cousin lives on stud road scoresby, im on stud road rowville..

i can't get it driveable, because it has no master cylinder for the brakes..

and the only two cars i have are a 68 beetle, and a tarago..

anyway i can tow the 69 with a tarago?

i want to do it safley but im not going to fluff around with a permit for a 3km trip down one road.

What happened to Your master cylinder Damien?
I had a stainless steel sleeve put into My master cylinder
along with a repair kit for around $110-00...
See if You can find a brake company that actually does this...
Most brake places will send it to someone to do and naturally it costs more... My Son had his done for about $80
So shop around..... IT would probably be a larger brake repair shop.... IMHO.....
The handbrake should work OK damien......
Just have it slightly dragging all the time and pull it on when going around corners etc....
The idea of towing a vehicle with a rope or cable, is the towed car supplies the brakes for the front car... otherwise the rear car would run into the rear of the towing car....
every time it slows down...

Best idea - I am going to make one of these.... the NRMA use these in NSW for towing.... It has a tow hitch at one end - fits onto the tow ball on the towing car and the other end just hooks on with a short chain & D shackle.... in between these two ends is a piece of 50mm or 75mm pipe , about 2 meters long roughly....
So when the front car stops etc the steel pipe stops You from running into it.... the person in the towed car just steers.....
For emergencies, a chain or thick rope could go thru a piece of thick pipe and just be tied on at each end......
the pipe - again stops the two vehicles from running into the rear of the towing car......

Only problem is that You are towing an unregistered car.....
but with number plates on & lights on and use flashers....
should be OK....
Best of Luck Damien

You could tow the 69 with the 68 Beetle just go slow in
LOW gear ..... or even in Drive 1...
SLOW is SAFE.....

Best of luck

Lee

I,m going to have a towing hook welded to the front of My Beetle..... just in case.... Lee

A 74 Beetle I had , had a front towing hook on the chassis..

master cylinder was removed for Skewy type 3.. speedo, headlights, tail lights etc all removed as i started stripping it at my cousin's place.. still tempted to try driving it at night though.. just needa attach air filter and petrol tank..

hmmmmm

i could tow it behind the tarago at night and sit in there with the hand brake for each time we get to a light (4 sets of lights between my place and his)

You shouldn't have too many worries with 3 kms but 3 sets of lights.....
I;m glad We don't have any here in SCONE...
The hand brake can do the job plus if it goes....
You don't really need an aircleaner unless its really dusty conditions.... and a drum with fuel in it.....

Very early in the morning..... or very late at night....

cheers

Lee
