My wife want's to update on her car, (currently a ford) she's -i'm looking at a turbo 2003, anyone got a review on what there like.
thanks
John
ask y2k she got one and its nice " i had a standard new bug and loved it
New beetles in general are WICKED ! (I have an 03 Cabrio)
I have heard mixed things about the new turbos. Send Y2K a u2u. She has a 2004 Turbo which has a few mods (including a power chip that makes it go so fast that it gives you whiplash !!!! I can vouch for that, my neck was sore for a week post ride!!!!), she would be the best person to give you advice and tell you what to look for.
Good luck !
🤘
we got one!! u cannot fault the mechinicals except for the coil pack's in them!! they are very nice car to drive u dont realise your doing 170km/h when u actually are they are very tight to drive!
i wouldnt go to one if it as going to be more then 3 people in it. i think we should go down into the world records for having 4 people 4 bags and a heap of tresures from fiji from brisbane to coffs!! boy it was shocking!!
i cant wait to get some money and my hands on my parents 03 model tubo beetle an do some mods!!

it aint just cool its aircool'd
I've got a Turbo. It's a great car, no room in the back but I don't sit there. Heated leather, traction control, speed activated spoiler, it's got everything and it handles due to being built on the same platform as the GTi. It can take corners a lot quicker than the work falcon and feels tight right through. The only problem I've had in 46000k is the LHS window reg breaking but that was fixed under warranty anyway. The coil problem mentioned earlier is a problem for all models and they cost around $300 to replace.
Roofracks are for plumbers!
the coil replacement though is done through warranty if you still have it!!

I have one as well and have had it chipped.I am really pleased with the power from low revs-but reckon it falls away too much at higher speeds.Have any of you had any issues with the rear spoiler.Mine used to come up at about 140k but after issues with the dash light, the Dealer managed to make it now come up at 160k and they reckon that this is impossible. When it runs out of warranty,I will buy a unit from the States that fits in the hatch which will allow me to have it come up at any speed I choose.I changed the wheels to VW 17's with 225x45 tyres from new and reckon it handles like a V8 Supercar. I have an new XR8 Ford ute and have given it a squirt to 200 a couple of times and it feels very unstable, but the NB at 200 I could comfortably take my hands off the wheel-it's rock solid and very quiet at that speed.I got an auto trans and a sunroof and reckon it's the best thing I have ever owned.Looks like I have the coil issues to come-I bet it happens after the warranty runs out.
U have driven your beetle at 200km ??????
OH MY GOD !!!!!!!
The awesome, (I really shouldn't be condoning speed and all, have seen too many smashed up people coming into my emergency dept due to excessive speed), but that's out of control !!!! I would LOVE a car that went that fast !!!!

I am yet to drive a new beetle but am happy to report i have driven the new golf anf the new bora and VW are on a good thing. All very firm, feel safe and drive lovely. No doubting the new beetle is in the same boat.
Interms of speed etc i have had my statesman to 220km/h at one stage and it felt very good, firm and quiet but then again its a 1600kg car. My 66 beete @ 90mph, now thats another story. :thumb
(gotta try em once 😉
1958 Beetle, 1966 VW Beetle, 1996 Holden Statesman!
Its an obsesion for engines and fuel.... 😏
have you considered the mk4 or even mk5 Golf GTI? the beetle was based on the mk4 Golf but with a big bubble body which is no good for air drag... so the mk4 GTI is actually faster than the turbo bug, even though the power output's the same. You can find a good one in the mid $20k's nowadays
I heard the new GTI is a ripper!!

The new GTI IS a ripper !!!!
Big bubble body is all about appeal and doesn't stop it from being quick. Just ask Y2k, her bug s^&%' s all over a lot of cars out there
