Went for a job interveiw today....all good, but

the job would be 120k's round trip along 4 of the shitiest roads in Bris
Ipswich rd, Centenery H'way, Milton Rd and Corro drive.

Regardless of the road, is this too many Km's a day 5 days a week to expect my beloved notch to cope with ?. it currently does 60 k's a day and hasn't skipped a beat in 12 months (touch wood)

I really don't want to have to get rid of it for a more respectable and economical ricer but don't want to destroy it either.
I originally bought it as a daily driver to keep my beetle company and the job pays more (if successful) so extra $ for repairs not a problem.

Suggestions......

how about get it on club rego, save the $$$ n get a modern daily driver hack to run it into the ground with air-con, ps, fast glass etc?

the more kms on the classic; you'll never get back

think about this.. what about when there is a whack on ippy road with the time sitting at idle in our hot summer.. cookin away, shudder at the thought

or are there any jobs closer to home or maybe move closer to work or public t/port a possibility?

my $0.02c, buy a cheap FI snot hatch. Air, auto, no rod but cheap as shit to run, really reliable and unlikely to get nicked. My fav was the diahatsu charade, later the better. Savings in fuel would pay for it and air is a blessing on the western car park.

I took 2.5 hours from Prince Charles Hosp on Monday to Ipswich UQ. One car on the side of the road after hitting the barrier. 0715 to 9.45..........

Keep the notch for fun and cruises. The snot hatch will pay for itself in no time.

unless you are travelling well outside peak traffic times the route will drive you insane within a week, regardless of what you drive those roads are brisbanes biggest shitfight .i know its a job but your sanity has to be considered as well

I used to drive my bug and my van 150km a day, 5 days a week for a couple of years. Not much traffic, but terrible, car destroying roads. They handled it better than most. But if you're talking stop/start traffic, get a baby efi ricer for sure. VWs like to run, not shuffle.

Only good thing about NSW is it seperates us from Vic....:P

Thanks for the advice...another car is out of the question unless i sell the notch or the beetle neither of which i'll do...so at this stage i'll suck it and see for twelve months, if I get the job.

The only thing in my favour is I will be at work before 7.00 am and will be gone by 3.30 so will miss the bulk of the traffic....I hope..might be the option of some car pooling i've since found out as well.

I've always wanted to convert my bay to an electric hybrid. I reckon a whole pile of batteries could fit under the floor. It'd improve roadholding too.
But I've always wanted to build a spaceship. Both just as likely to happen.
Have to build in a set of speakers to play back the sound of the old engine though.
