This question came through to the club from NZ....does anyone here know the history of them...I've not seen one before...

'.....I would be grateful if you could supply me with information regarding the "SPECIAL" Wolfsburg crest badge(see attatched image)
of Aussie assembled Type 1's circa 1965. The badge in the photo was sited on the front l/h quarter-panel of a 1965 1200 that had as factory accessories front and rear stoneguards, fluted wheel tims, two-tone upholstery, full overriders and a broad polished alum stripe tapering to a point from rear to front incorporating the std chrome body trim(if you can picture that description!?!). I owned this car for 10 years until it was sadly - tragically - destroyed, salvaging as many parts as poss.
Few people on this side of the Tasman seem to know any thing about this badge and its place in Aussie VW history. I have seen a few other Beetles over the years with the same badge but they are v.rare indeed. Are they sought after?
I would be most grateful for any info you might have.
Take it easy, Julian Brook. '

Yes, Issue#1 has an article by Gary Collis on the three styles of Wolfsburg badges made available in Australia.
