Pardon my ignorance, but does anybody have a few quick hints on WRX engine alt wiring? I have a cut wiring harness with a Big Fat white wire on the output termainal; and a smaller white wire and a black/white trace wire coinnected to a plug in the side of the alternator. I assume it's an internal reg jobbie and the white wire runs to 12V battery and the black/white wire is for the dash light...?
It's on an EJ20nn[ Edited on 14-7-2005 by VWCOOL ]

Is it a two wire plug and one large off the alt post?
Mine has large off ignition switch going to the the battery 12V+ on the starter motor, this then goes to the large terminal on the alt. The 2 wire plug is as you say
One is 12V+ and the other is dash light.
I wonder why you can't just run a jumper from the alt post to the 12V+ on the plug?
I'm in the process of completely rewiring the Spyder and fitting a Microtech ECU....fun isn't it.....
I have my old WRX loom sitting in the corner of the garage, you need any bits?
You running stock ECU or aftermarket Glenn?:beer

The alt post actually has two coming off it - but I guess I only need one! I'll wire it to the old VW 'big' wire, remove the VW reg and see how I go!
Aftermarket? :duhNaaahhh... GTMac's Type 3 Faaasty - has a stock JDM ECU. I connected half a dozen wires and it all fired up first turn of the key... brilliant... :thumbnn[ Edited on 14-7-2005 by VWCOOL ]

I've got a local chip (Vos) for that ECU that will remove the pesky 180kph speed cut that the JDM ECUs have. It also increases the boost to 16psi with more aggressive fuel and igntion maps.....just plug in to the ECU and clip 2 jumpers on the board. $200 + postage.
I've also got a 4 plug JDM ECU as well for sale.
I was the same and was determined to use the stock ECU...just the other week I had problems at the drags and it looked like an AFM problem, got the shites and ordered the Microtech, then when I was removing the stock loom I found that I had lost a ground wire and this was screwing with the sensor signal voltages...bugger it!
Too late now, it's aftermarket so I might as well take advantage of it and fit the big injectors..larger BB turbo, and nitros.....:nn[ Edited on 14-7-2005 by speedster356 ]

whoops... I shouldn't have used the word 'stock'. It's a factory JDM box with a tickle... speed and spark/fuel etc
Hmm.. How does a Type 3 feel at 200+?!
