my oval has a 1600sp industrial motor fitted with an 009
no flat spots runs great but I still want to know the timing & find the marks on the pulley confusing - the picture shows exactly where the marks are firing at 500 revs

"1" is the V cut notch "2" is a white painted circular depression on the outer face of pulley & "3" is where it it fires at full advance (this mark lines up with case split at 3000 revs)

Kim, forget the marks, with a 009 you need to measure 43.5mm round to the right of the TDC notch, mark it white out, then mark another one at 49.5mm. Using a timing strobe you need to rev the engine to 3000 rpm and adjust your dizzy so its nearer the 49.5mm mark. The left mark denotes 28degrees advance and the 49.5mm mark is 32 degrees. I usually set it at 32 degrees, drive it and if it pinks under load, I knock it back a fraction. With a 009 you just let it idle wherever it lies but you need to time it with the gun.

Alternatively I can give you the number of Peter Gabriel who built this engine and put it in the car when George had it.

Cheers

thanks Steve, I think I have his number, - so the notch is TDC?
the mark 1cm to the left of it had me confused as it must have some signiificance originally
at the moment max advance is 31mm to the right of the notch
& 44mm to the right of the circular depression mark, I think I will leave it until tomorrow so as not to upset the neighboursnn[ Edited on 18-7-2005 by kombikim ]
