Hi all, sorry this is a bit off topic but I need some advice.
I have been offered a pretty cool job in Hobart and am very keen to take it but it would be a pretty major move to uproot the family and move down there. I know there are a few people on here that have moved down to Hobart so I was just wondering how you are liking it. I personally really love Hobart and think it would be a great place to live but my wife is from London and is used to the big city feel that she still gets to a certain extent in Melbourne and she is a bit concerened she would miss this in Hobart.
Any thoughts anyone?
Cheers and thanks a lot.
all i know is they party hard down there

i lived there for 6 months, back in 2000, when my old man took a job down there.. i found the schools to be terrible..
it is a beautiful place but if you have kids i wouldn't put them through it.. I personally experienced a lot of resentment (sp?) as i was a "mainlander" as did my 2 younger brothers and younger sister. i was at a different school to them at the time also.. my mum also was ignored by all the "island" mum's because she had Victorian rego plates on her car.
apart from that it was a great place..weather is nice, nice paced lifestyle, beautiful places to visit, lovely houses etc..
dont want to be a downer.. I would move down there if i was offered a good job, and didnt have any kids.. if i had kid's i would turn it down

Sorry Killa but what a load of @#$%!!!!!!!!!!!👎
I'm born and bred in Tassie and have to say I've never seen or heard of any resentment towards mainlanders who move here!!!!! All that I know love it here and will never go back.
My partner is a teacher and could argue with you till the cows come home about mainland V's Tassie education standards.
I have a lot of friends who are ex-main land and none have had these experiences you speak of........
My business partner is from Sydney!!!!!!!
WOW 6 months eh? Lots of experience to draw on there........
You would find it the same in any school when you are new, give it a little time eh?🤓
As for rain I saw more in Adelaide in a day than I have here for 2 weeks......:P
Actually, I've changed my mind, we're all pricks.
Pricks who don't want to be over run with mainlanders.........
Stay away........
We want it all to ourselves........😁
ahhh i reckon he's entitled to his opinion without getting told its shit.... people have different experiences yeah?
have always wanted to go to tassie but i would miss the brissie sun and warmth too much to live there i reckon...
everything dies baby, thats a fact..
maybe everything that dies one day comes back..
put your make up on and your hair up pretty..
and meet me tonight in Atlantic city..
Tassies a nice enough place to live... i'm just bored with it lol..
My BF and i are moving to Melbourne as soon as we can afford it... we have alot of friends there..
Tassupervee and wifey moved to Tassie about 15 years ago and I would NEVER go back to the big island. You could not pay me enough money to go back.
Thes in NOTHING on the mainland that you cannot find here entertainment wise but as the place is smaller there are simply less of them.
However there is so much clean air, scenery, space and opportunity you can find if you are here.
My wife is born and bred in Croydon in Syd and anybody that knows Syd knows how tightly packed and....err big city, the inner west is and kicked and screamed when we first got here about just about everything you could imagine, weather, cold, wind, cold, no friends, cold, backwards, no nightlife, cold, too quiet (WTF?) cold blah blah freakin blah.......too cold, christ it never ended LOL too cold!
Just try and move her away now.
She learned to put on a wind cheater, she learnt how to light a fire, she made a legion of new friends, she discovered that there is plenty of nightlife in Tas. Now she HATES the noise as we live in the sticks down here on 8 acres and when she goes up to the big island to visit her family, the first thing she talks about is getting back to the peace and quiet, the clean air and the cooler temps.
I was born and bred and spent 30 years in the southern beaches of Syd, (Cronulla) and i would never consider going back to a big city again.
Your wife will let go of the big city lifestyle in short time and the kids will have no dramas at school once they quit bitchin about how wonderful the big city schools are!!!!!
I say grab the opportunity with both hands while you can and feel free to look me and Andy up when you get here and we will show you some Tasmanian hospitality!!
