Well im almost 21, but thats still young so im gunna comment!
My first Vw was a 77' Kombi camper named Gypsy Li, I cleaned it up abit and spent a far bit on the engine (cause i had to). I loved that van but my parents didnt really so i sold her!!
Now i have a 71' Super bug! She's pretty! Have started doing little things to her like some rust repair and put white walls on.. She has a recon motor so has been good to me so far and i have been able to work on the engine myself, which is good!!
Will prob buy another kombi one day when i have a proper job cause i love them!!

hi, im fish, im 18, and i drive a 73 L bug.
the car is currently off the road for a paint job. it is being used as a project car for wollongong youth services network graffiti program, to raise awareness of graffiti as an artform, not just vandalism. other than that it is stock standard.
my room mate owns a 75 bus. she bought it for 1000 dollars. when she agreed to buy it was black, but the owner got incredibly high and painted the entire thing in ryal blue house paint the night before she picked it up. after a few moths work she runs very well.

hey, im 16... 17 in december. Got my 76 bus at the end of last year and have since rebuilt the engine, added gauges and a sound system. Its a camper, i plan on getting rid of the pop top and the gas tank holder etc, and redoing the interior with a full width bed/bench seat.

This little darling is Veronika, my 1971 SuperBug.
Originaly Left Hand Drive, she was purchased from FTA (Film Transport Australia), a mob who supplies L.H.D cars for Movie World.
After towing her home from Oxenford, I scrubbed her up, gave her a quick beauty coat and coverted her to R.H.D.
Since then, the only problems I've had are the rear axle nut (You know, the one that's always a prick to get off) falling off due to the fact that she was stripped when she had her RWC done, the headlight relay (Made in W. Germany, 1972) bugger up and the 'cam follower' for the points break off.
Other than that, I've put a few thousand miles on the dial, and I intend to put a few more on untill I get my other '71 SBug on the road.
Only then will she recieve the full resto treatment.

My name is Zach and i'm from Nuriootpa in SA. I am 17 years old, turning 18 next week
I own a 1970 Kombi camper which I bought off eBay for $1900 about two months ago. Since then she's been great and running well although I did have to get the generator and voltage regulator replaced, ($600 dollars worth!).
In the future I hope to get the rust cut out of her and replaced with new panels, a spray job and some interior work done.

darwin ladybug. the porsche engine conversion seems to be too expensive for what you get. better off going a subi donk or a rotary.
but if you want to stay more traditional like try looking into building up a hot t1 motor or even a kombi motor conversion. all cheaper than a porsche conversion and you will have the same amount if not more fun when finished.
Its a shame to hear you are selling it gaylene..

My name's Kieran, I'm 18, and live near Jervis Bay on the NSW South Coast.
I have a yellow 1976 Kombi camper that I recently purchased from a retired Veedub mech in Nowra for $2000... her name's "Buttercup", and she's my one true love!
Buttercup has a factory 2L twincarb motor and 4-speed manual box. Her bodie's in perfect nick' (only rust she's ever had was a bit above one tailight, and the PO fixed it long before I first found it), and the mechanical's are excellent except for a burnt exhaust valve on No.3, which we're fixing next weekend anyway...
I sold my 1979 Mini Moke so I could afford to buy my Kombi... and she was worth every last cent! :thumb
I actually came across Buttercup by accident on my way home from inspecting a '72 Kombi that a guy had offered to trade for my Moke... I turned it down cos it had more bog in it than steel... and was unrego'd...POS! We turned a corner into a friends street, and there was Buttercup in all her radiance... then I fell in love... 😵
I'll post pix of my baby later... perhaps t'moz. 🙂

OK, heres dem pix of Buttercup in all her yellow, baywindowed glory...
These pix were taken in the morning yesterday... The area above the left tailights where Buttercup had a cancer removed (long before I bought her) has since been painted to match the rest of the body... gonna refit the lights tomorrow if she'd dried enuff...
I've also hooked up a pair of 100W Technics home stereo speakers to the stock headunit and sat them between the front seats. Believe it or not.. this 29 year old stereo sounds bloody awsome with some of these bigass speakers on it!

I was stoked when I found her for sale... beats the crap out of the '72 I was looking at earlier that day...
I went over Buttercup in detail today, and the only rust I can find is some tiny pinholes behind the front wheel arches at the very bottom of the sill and some starting to come through the bottom of the lip under the left intake (the PO told me honestly that it had had some rust fixed there but the repairer did a shite job of it...)... she's almost perfect. 😵
I spose that comes from being owned by a Dub doctor for 20 years! :thumb
hehe... too bad the same cant be said for teh condition of my dad's Saab 900 in the background... a few years ago it rolled down a 45 degree embankment, slammedinto the bottom of the hill, and continued into a gumtree! snapped theengine mounts, bent the steering arm, bowed the chassis (still has a curve)... off the road for 2 months, and always had probs since... 😂

I love my Kombi... first time I drove it, I decided I was never going to drive another type of car (except maybe an HJ Holden or my VH stationwagon project)... its soooo comfy to drive, and the noisy dak-dak engine always gets attention if the rest of the van doesnt succeed... which it usually does tho anyway. 😀
Hmmm... I really should start taking the rust out of that Commodore soon... but Buttercup comes first at all costs!

Im 16 and from Adelaide, me and my twin(not identical thou) bought a '60 bug when we were 11 for $500.
Rebuilt the engine with dad's help a year after that. Apart from that the only thing been done to it is some venetian blinds for the rear window (i reckon there the coolest) and general maitinance.
I can get my P's on the 21st of Feb and can't wait to be driving the bug to school! :P😵💫:P

I personally wouldn't fit one to any of my cars, but i have seen some cars out there that do look sweet with them.

hello there good to see so many other youngsteres out there im not alone 🙂 i am of 19 this year am the proud owner and builder of my 1969 fuel injected mazda rotary baja bug. The low down :
Engine : as every one may already know it is a self done conversion of a hybride s4 and s5 rotary engine with a large extended port job, turbo housings and plates, custom exhaust cooling and full microtech computer managment
Body 1969: Baja bug Kit, the kit is a cheetah kit all four gaurds have been widened even more by 1.5 inches with a empi scooped bonnet, painted in a high metallic burgandy pain job
interior : Obx race seats sparco 4 point harnsesses ( 2 seater now) 10 inch sub and 4 speakers in one custom box in place of back seat. microtech dash unit ect ect
suspension : lifted front balljoint ( 181 front end on the way ) raised rear end koni shocks all round, 15 inch balck hot wire mags with 31 mudders all round🙂
so thats the basic low down on the major stuff take a look at my website below note it hasnt been up graded in a while and the car looks alot differant now with the big mudders and differant rims ,, all work was done at home 🙂
I will take a few pics of the new big muuders on the car it changes the way the whole car looks making it look alot more beasty and like a true offroader

Oh my god she looks so hot! I can't wait to post up a thread in members rides to show you all. It's very hard to take a good picture though because the paint is so metallic and glittery it just reflects back, but i will try my best though!

Ha Ha, I drove a 69 Beetle originally, free from family friends.
Found the Karmann on CarSale.com, actually only 2 suburbs from my house at the time :thumb :thumb
Dad bought it for himself, payed 12k for it, spend about another 2 on the engine, brakes etc, drove it for a while, then bought an '85 911.
So the Karmann was passed to me :thumb :thumb
The Beetle is currently being used by my brother as a learner car, after which we'll pass it to friends of ours for the same purpose.
Hoping to find another Karmann at some point, slightly less modded than what mine has been.

You can't see here, but in person looking at the car, huge paint damage is visible. The job was done before we bought the car, quick and cheap. With lots of body filler, which I'm really hoping is not hiding huge panel damage/rust.

Cheers Sam, i've worked very hard on my beetle, she is a 74 L Bug with a Subaru Conversion. I have done and paid for my car myself which is half the reason its taking so long. Although i did get a hand with some welding and grinding from my dad as he is a qualified welder. I've just moved to Brisbane from perth so she is still there until she gets shipped over, in the meantime i have a 1960 Beetle as well which will be my daily driver.
It would have been a hell of alot more, but we did the body work ourselves, which dropped the price of panel and paint by around $2.5K. The body work had to be perfect before the Candy Apple Paint went on, as any inperfection would be seen.This took quite alot of time, lots of rubbing back! So far money has gone towards panels, aero guards, parts, paint and motor and its in the vicinity of around 8K. She still has her finishing touches to like interior, personalised plates, tyres and wheels. Some people told me to keep a tally of how much i have spent on her, but i think that would have just scared me!!! 🤪
It's crazy how quickly things add up, all those little things you buy! She has been off the road for about 4 years now for me to afford the things i wanted for her. She is my dream car, and i have worked very hard on her with the help of my wonderful Dad. Dad has helped me out heaps, but its my money that is spent on her as its my car. I would much rather spend the money i have on her, than buy a new "recyclable" car any day. At the end of the day, she will stand out on the road, not blend in with the rest! :thumb

How much did your paint job end up costing, if you don't mind me asking.
I'm going to have to repaint my Ghia at some point in the near future, but I'm actually afraid of taking it back to bare metal, I'm worried there is going to be extensive rust damage under the paint.
Had it looked at and the guy was very worried about the amount of body filler in some areas, so I could be up for a huge amount of $$$ sadly.

The paint ended up coming to 2.5K, but that was with me also knowing the guy. It would have been over double that if we hadnt done the body work ourselves. Her body wasn't too bad. Rust in the usual areas along with body filler. She had a alot of wear on her body as she had been sitting outside for quite a while in the yard of a wreckers. I saved her from being crushed, so it was all worth it!

Hey Sam not to be a scaremonger but I'd be very skeptical indeed if there is bog and cheap paint involved... This is what I found under the bog and nice shiney bad paint on my Kombi... :duh
AT least with the Kombi I can buy new sills and steps and have a corner waistline cut to put in... but it will still cost me around a grand give or take to get fixed properly including paint.
If the ghia isas bad as that in a few places you're going to be looking at some serious bucks cos they got some seriously sexy curves that aint easy to fabricate... and I'm not sure if ya can get replacement panels for Ghia's like ya can with Kombi's.
anywho... ya ride looks good from the outside at least for the moment. Good luck with it! 👍

Thnx Schmoburger, don't worry about scare mongering, I'm already crapping. Your pics are actually helping in the decision department, I can see that being the case with mine.
I've seen pictures of Ghias with similar paint damage as mine, then pics of after they've been taken back to bare metal. Very very scary.
Other option was to drive my current Ghia until it's well and truely done, try and get another, and use my current for spares, and use my current engine.
Much better than spending over the 10k mark on a respray (which was what I was quoted recently, he said even more if there is damage under the paint.
I'll take some pictures to highlight the damage today or tomorow and put them up here. Any advice you guys can offer would be great.

bloody hell was it a prerequisite in australia that if u bought a standard that it had to be beryl green or torquoise?
ive only ever seen 2 white ones vs about 10 beryl green and Turquoise pov models
u may find that its a 63 to
61 and 62 standards didnt have metal side strips, only pinstriping and also didnt have chrome blinkers, headlights etc just silver painted

Hi my names Jess and im 22s , i own a 1972 Superbug 1300 named Sunnny. Shes bright yellow at the moment and once i have saved the dosh i will look at putting her back to the original colour or white. The inner roof has just been redone as has the floor/dicky seat. At the moment i just have to fix a few minor things like the slack in the clutch cable and put in a new throttle cable other than that shes perfect. Im going to keep my VW as close to original as possible so i most likely wont appreciate most the stuff that the young ones put up here.

Hi, I'm Caitlyn, I'm 15 and we just bought a VW off ebay to fix up. Apparently it was broken. It wasn't 🙂 We fixed it up and we are now doing little things to it. I have had an infatuation with VW Bugs since I was quite small and now I have one, it is excellent 🙂 It's bright yellow 1972 model and it's name is Gertie 🙂

yello... i'm 17 I drive 71 Super bug metallic black (not very shiny)... can beat a KE70 corolla 🙂 i've got extractor and custom exhaust on it so it doesn't sound like person farting when i drive HA! but my motor is dying tho the valves are kinda gone and i don't have enough compresssion and it doesn't like idling 😬 the best thing is i never got pulled over in this car ever (i''ve been on P for about 8 months now tho :P) but i drive a lot... no cops would waste their time on beetle lol

Hey well im 17 and own a 1971 super bug (my first car) named jasper his paint colour is dark metallic green which looks great i always wanted a bug since i was 8 and im absolutly mad about them .
