Hey guys, i had to fix my own accelerator pedal because it broke off the floor pan :o
i just screwed a hinge onto the bottom and screwed that into the floor, works fine but the accelerator is hard to put down, makes city driving a bitch. can you think of why it is hard to push down, could the pedal be to upright causing not enough leverage to be put onto it, or could it be totally unrelated to the pedal itself.
please help as it is becoming a pig to drive, with an accelerator that is nothing half or full in a 1776 with lightened conrods and flywheel in a light weight baja bug with a 1200 box it is not hard to see why.:vader

check cable routing, and where the roller comes into contact with the back of the go fast pedal. also make sure it's still square on the floor mebbe. you might have to move your hinge a bit.

is the pivot for the hinge in the exact same place as the original? Building an acceleration curve into a pedal is a weird idea, but they seemed to like it.

Could just be where the new hinge is bolted. I would also grease the cable and check the return spring at the carby.

it springs back alright, it is just really hard to push down, i have lubed up the cable and where it attaches to the pedal cluster. i think it might just be that it is to vertical so that it may not have enough leverage to push it down at a controlled rate. ill try and fix it this weekend

Most likely the hinge is causing the problem......
Can You have an original bit welded back onto the floor?

Even with a VW hinge the roller etc in the standard hinge can cause problems....
Really odd bit of engineering.....
Maybe a large Roller instead of the pedal would be better..
as on early beetles....

I had the problem on the beetle once I think. I believe it was when the hinge pin slipped out of one corner of the pedal. So the pedal was slightly offset and it was a pain to press.
Still prefer that to the kombi problem. The pin slips on one corner, the pedal twists around, the little metal link falls out and there's suddenly no go-go!I hate that so much!
