Despite the very obvious, what is the main differences between air and electric tools.
Should i be looking at aquiring a wide range of electric tools to restore my dub, or buy a kick a$$ compressor and tools. or a mix of both.
Air ones obviously need a compressor to power them, but air tools are generally smaller, lighter and cheaper as the power is supplied by the compressor. Also there tends to be more range of specialist tools you can get, like bodysaws, holepunch/stepping tools etc. Electric ones you tend to be able to get more powerful tools that dont need to wait up for the compressor. They also need less attention, you dont have to lug a compressor around if you want to take it to a mates place etc. But they are heavier larger and more expensive.
One of the most useful tools I have is my cheapie electric 100mm angle grinder. Cuts thru almost anything with a cutting disc, grinds down stuff. I use my compressor for things like the dusting gun and I bought a set of air tools (which was a lot cheaper than the electric equivalents) like a impact wrench, air ratchet etc which i find useful. Although with the air tools, i often have to wait for the compressor if i use the tools full bore which can get annoying.

Although you have to factor in the cost of an air compressor, a decent belt driven one with decent output starts at about $500. Yeah so basically a combination of air/electric is best.

Cheers Jon,
Been watching your work, its inspiring me.
I have used electric... will be investing in air from now on as I will be playing with cars forever... Lots more variety with air tools, nibblers, etc etc and I like the sound!!

Horses for courses ........
I have both,
Air tools such as rattle guns, air ratchets, kero-cleaners, orbital sanders, air chisels, have all been invaluable during my resto. In addition to that ya get a great bike and car tyre inflater (damn kids, always want, want, want!)
But also need some electric stuff like drills, saws, hammers, etc, especially for stuff that needs doin inside the house where the air hose won't reach.
Get both, you want be sorry, but it may take a while to procure a good tool selection.
