I am running into a few problems with transport dep. First of all they said that the 19 x 8 wheels are to big. Still trying to scam that one because they approved the 17x7 which i had fitted before. Which had the same width tyre just 2 inches taller. I have also found out that they wont let me use the wheel spacers i have fitted. They are from TCCA motorsport and the brand is H&R. These are 20mm spacers. I would take them off, but if i do i cant get full lock on the front as it rubs on the shocks.Just wondering if anyone else has been through these dramas. Any advice would be great.
1303 Steve had his car engineered with spacers - but that is because he had Porsche 944 rear arms enginnered to his car and Porsche use them.
The rule in NSW is if the manufacturer uses them then yes - otherwise no.
I "believe" some engineers can see trees in the woods if the spacer is fixed to the wheel as it is then not technically a spacer, but........"for off road use only" 😂

The problem is your car - not the Transport blokes!
Spacers are regarded as dangerous as they increase strain on the wheel studs - they increase the leverage the wheel has on the studs. As mentioned, they are illegal except if fitted and tested etc etc by the manufacturer as OE, like Porsche.
You need to get wheels with the correct offsetnn[ Edited on 17-8-2005 by VWCOOL ]
Pay your debts, CxxT
ian take it 2 big all at perth" and paint the spacers black thay do stand out on it
Hi
My car didnt have spacers, the engineer allowed 9 inch rears because of the 944 rear end in the car.
Steve
Unfortunately my bug has spacers at the rear (why on earth would anyone use 4-stud drums and converter spacers to fit 5-wide wheels on a car that originally had 5-wides anyway?) but luckily the inspectors didn't notice the spacers when I got it rego-ed after buying it, otherwise I'd have had problems because spacers are illegal. One day I'll get around to putting normal 5-wide drums back in.

Talking to the transport dep. again today i managed to get the wheels & tyres approved.:thumb No luck with the spacers they have to be removed. I took them off today the wheels still only just fit. On the front i only have around 80% of full lock this should be ok. On the rear the wheels sit around 15mm off the spring plate not sure if this is going to be an issue. So even if i used the spacers it would still not be registered as the track width would exceed the 25mm allowance over standard.
