Wahoo! I had to say it, am so proud.

My mate and I teamed up in a Griffith uni Australian Digital design challenge in the open 3d digital design competition, and out of all the national participants of Australia, we got into the finals, which only consists of five enterants, INCLUDING ME AND MY MATE, YAY!

We have been invited to the finals on Fri night at the Southbank Griffith College of Art for the judging of the final positions, but regardless, we each get a plarque and publishing into the web and magazines/journals. So dam happy, neva been in this opportunity. Only other big thing that eva happened to me was being dux of science and dux of art in yr 10 and 8. So this is wild.

Perhaps my mate and I for fun should make u dubbers a cartoon or something, be good. lol 🙂 3d vee dubs, best way to simulate project ideas i reckon before construction, hmmm, gives me an idea.

Lol, tru, will have to. We used my mates 'souped up' PC which he just recently bought and brought for the competition. A worker has to have to right tools right... he he.

Well anyways, cause I'm not that rich (can't even afford a bomb dub for crying out loud), its on his computer atm, but will have to tell him to email me it.

The task was to design a 3d 'distraction' for the lining up paths at the ticketing booths of the Melbourne stadiums for the 2007 or 2006 or something Melbourne Commonwealth games to distract the customers while they wait in line, so there not frustrated and bord out of there wits and all. So yeah, will get it for yas.

WOuld luv to get into airbrushing art, that i wanna learn next.

I think you'll be disappointed mate. There's nothing about you in BA, and the agitators are in general chit chat. The only M/R rated things in there are my thoughts... trying to get the girls to strip naked. im not doing well on that front AT ALL.

Congratulations. Unfortunately for me I like the creating websites things but am totally unarty, and i cant grasp photoshop, and i cant choose colours so... the couple of sites I have done are ripped off or sucky. I think I had better stick to writing back ends... if i can remember any of it after the long lay off. congrats again.

Heres the work, got a copy of it.

Now heres the details, we had 2 hrs to do it, neva was told what we had to build until we got there, had only one computer, and have neva taken any tafe/uni or even school courses/classes on this 3d stuff (cause no teachers know how to use the applications of 3DS max 7.0 and all).

My mate and i are self taught school kids in yr 12, and so the work aint as pro as say the uni graduates from www.cgchannel.com

Thanx everyone, oh and amazer, thats some seriously fluorescent orange juice!

Hardwork and ability to take critisism/tips/ideas/advice/education is the start to success in anything really. Been in this comp 3 times, and this is the 1st we had eva done really well, so great improvment compared to our 'bum' house that we had to design last year. 🙂

OK heres the update of the awards night. My mate and I were in 5th place in the country! We were pretty happy, and they had free food and all and even gave out bottles of coke IN GLASS BOTTLES! (yeah, i was pretty excited, neva touched a glass coke bottle before. I took advantage of the moment sculling about 6 bottles of soft drink at that night, not all coke though lol)

But anyways, yep, i was pretty proud of our achievement. We have done better 3d b4, but taht was without time restricts and without being asked to design something specifically. Um, really, besides the awards and the free food, the night was pretty crap. The guys had technical errors and problems, flicking the bloody mouse everywhere trying to guess which program would open up someting else, and even the bloody media students had no idea how to use the computer AFTER WORKING 3 YRS IN THEIR DEGREE!

That was another thing, some of the guest speakers there (Giffith uni final year Media students) had turned me off from Griffith uni. (neva wanted to go there anyway, want to go to UQ). Some of their works they showed after 3 years of education was nothing extraordinary (this is coming from the collective opinions of the audience, not just mine). Some guy there thought because he was a media student, he would get the chance to design cars, SPACE SHIPS AND AIRCRAFT! I mean, well, i should stop bitching. But it takes more than a media student who designs uncomfortable chairs who finds photoshop difficult to use after 3 years experience to create a space ship or an aircraft. Huge amounts of physics, wind tunnel testing, astrophysics and emmence engineering is required for these TO GET OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE, NOT PRETTINESS. Oh well, some people seem unaware of the real world these days. It just makes me angry how people underestimate what it takes to do something.

Its like u guys and restos/custom designs and all, if someone went up to you who had no fricken idea of what is required and said that "ah, thats easy, i can do that, who can't?" attitude, it brings down the feeling taht u achieved something great, and it can make me so angry.

Oh, and one of the speakers said taht if u do media studies, u can be an architect. PHHH!

Soz, i probably sound like a really F-head, but the night was shocking and the talks were terrible, YOU HAD TO BE THERE and i repeat (this is a collective opinion, not my own individual). I'm definitely not going to QCA at Griffith uni next yr. Hell no.

A night that was suppose to be a big advertisement for QCA "Queensland college of art" at griffith had seriously backfired. University of Queensland, HERE I COME!........

(But yeah, on the bright side, my mates' (Dean his name is) and my work made us top 5 in Australia. And thats all the matters really. At least I have now more of a clear path of what uni to go to seeing all the others and how they run.)

Dam, im a b1tch. Hmmm.😂

Chris,

you should talk to my friend Inger. She does the 3D renders for buildings and interior designs. (She is an architect). She lectures at RMIT here in Melbourne, and is definitely one of the better lecturers and designers in Australia. Her work can be found on various Mirvac buildings around town, including one which is very striking near the King St overpass.

Also, you look like you'd have a future in games. Atari down her in Melbourne needs people like you; however, gaming is very underpaid and overworked, so it's a labor of love, not for the money. Ditto for architecture, actually. Unless you're a partner in a firm, architecture pays terribly.

You have talent, dude. Keep it up.

thanks,
Andrew

Thanx man, yeah, architecture and gaming is pretty cool, but high $ can be hard to reach. Interior and landscape architects don' t seem to get anything fancy, but building architects (like for bridges/multistory buildings) can be alright, just gotta look around i spose. But yeah, ur right.

My big bro is really into gaming and makin' games and all. He wants to make taht kind of stuff, but he is also aware of the bad wage. He wants to start his own buisness of be a head/lead programmer of project manager or something, hence why hes pretty pushing the limit and trying to be top by doing a double degree in science (majoring in Physics) and in engineering (majoring in software) rather tahn just an IT degree.

Yeah, I should talk to Inger. Would probably gimme some good ideas about the career and all. Thanx for the contact, will drop a u2u some time to her.

Cheers mate.nn[ Edited on 27/8/2005 by mynameischris88 ]
