apart from having a dent in my front drivers side mud/tyre guard thingy. getting my rear brakes fixed. over the few days my car has not wanted to go into first or second from neutral. would be fine while moving but when stationary nothing, also trouble going into reverse (makes a sound like i am grinding gears but i am not) had enough of it last night contacted a few vw ppl and first thing this morning took her to the mechanics and there she still sits.

due to the work load my mechanic already had on the go was only able to take a quick look today. Am told that it could be one of two things, the clutch cable (which is being replaced any way as they can;t adjust it any more) and possibly the pressure plate. not happy :cry

so i am now without a car til at least monday arvo.

on top of this i still need to fix my dent and get the steering fixed not having much fun at the moment.:cry

Hey, atleast once it's fixed it'll be better than ever! 😉

I've sourced a clutch kit for my Beetle, and I can't wait to have her driving like new!!

i know what you mean exactly as i havent had my chaos since march last year and the one im driving nothing but a shadow compared to him. but i spent 5 years building him from the ground up to what he was, but it wont be long now and he and i will be terrorizing the streets again

hmm if it makes you feel better I am having similar shifting issues with Heidi...still she's heaps cheaper to maintain than a newer car (and far better to cruise in)!

i know the feeling very well... you are fixing yours up though, im letting mine sit at my parents place till i get enough $$ together to turn her into a new (old) car!

dont worry, she will be back soon and you'll be driving happily again!
in the beginning, the universe was created.
this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

I sympathise tigress... I've had those moments myself... I think most vw drivers have at least a couple of times. And I expect I'll go throuhg it again. But chin up girl, you'll be grinning when you get your vw back and can cruise again 🙂

I had this problem about a year ago. It happened in traffic at a major intersection on a steep hill and I was f*#ed. My handbrake was gone at the time too! It took me about 11 tries to get through the lights. It's the linkages in your gearbox I think. Get your mechanic to check that out. It was inexpensive and fairly simple to fix.

good luck

Yer anyway it doesn't matter what you drive all cars are ment to wear out eventually and cost money to repair. So if you want to drive a car you have to pay unless you want to walk every where. This is good that it is only taking till Mon arvo as most mechanics are pretty busy people. My hubby likes to collect vw's so I always have a spare to drive when one breaks.

Your clutch cable could be stretched as far as it can go...
also if its not streched then the pressure plate is worn out.
An old problem fixer with the clutch, for a quick fix, is to undo the clutch cable nut and take it off... then place a few flat washers or a nut onto the cable then do the nut up again.... the flat washers or nut gives You extra adjustment... then buy a clutch cable these are NOT expensive.... that will allow You to get all the gears without crunching..... until the cable breaks ??
Best of luck

Just remember how old the Beetle is... and that "normal" cars just don't last that long....

She may be giving a little trouble now, and be costing you some dollars, but in the long run she's worth it.
