Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust doors on a 68 beetle?, I've just bought this beetle and the drivers side door is not hanging straight, which causes a lot of noise from wind...the passenger side is straight...
any ideas?
have a look at the door latchs, ( the bits that release the door from the body when you open the door) easy to adjust, just a couple of screws. Loosen the door latch slightly, and you will see that they can be moved around to suit the angle of yourdoor. Should be able to get a better line after adjusting either the door latch or where the latch connects to the frame..if that doesn't work, may be something with the hinges??
good luck.
craig.
its hard to explain, i apologise if you dont understand..??!! maybe some one else can translate a little clearer.??
If your not sure find a local panel beater and see if they will adjust it for you
If you cant get it adjusted with the catch, like what quincy says, you can shim out the hinges. If the door is hanging low undo the bottom hinge screws and tap a shim between the hinge plate and the door pillar. Its surprising how you can lift the door even with a 1 or 2 mill shim. You can make a shim out of a beer can.Or buy new hinges as the hinge pins do wear.
where are you
the door hinges have a major part to play with adjustments
if u loosen the 3 big screws the hinge will move in and out line it up, one hinge at a time with the body...when u think its straight close the door and check the handle end is all lined up.gutter to floor
If then say the bottom sticks out (causing wind noise) your top hinge maybe too far in OR the bottom hinge too far out .....try that Or both hinges...
and, yes line up the lock first but if door does not seal go through the process above.
