Hi all!
On a sunny Sunday 25th of September a group of keen VW nuts turned up to the popular southern race track Baskerville raceway.
We arrived at around 10am to see a MK2 Golf convertable and a worked 2 litre convertable superbug having fun around the track, with everyone else meeting and greeting in the pits.
We parked in the shade and met up with some friends, and proceeded into the meeting room where we were told about the various safety aspects and rules.

The fun started with a slalom course, with green racing golf (owned by my mechanic) proving great to watch, along with the wrx.

I had a go and had a ball! The old type 3 wasn't slow either, keeping up with some of the modern cars! I started with a time of 39 seconds and as i discovered the car had more grip than i thought, i pushed it to a best of 35 seconds, and got alot of cheers!

Then someone saw the St Johns ambulance and thought "Hey, its a VW too!" and took it round the course, collecting quite a few cones and plently of laughs!

After that we all had some fun doing laps of the track, and i found the Type 3 to have very neutral handling, which made it surprisingly fun to go around the track... slow on straights but could push it a bit in corners..
Going down the back straight, doing about 75mph, i was overtaken by the track marshall having some fun in his wife's WRX, then the WRX was overtaken by the little green racing Golf, which was very funny to watch!
After we all did a few laps, we pulled in and had a barbeque, and watched the formula vee's do a few laps.

Then the hotlapping for the fast cars started.
The Golf was the fastest, followed by the WRX, followed very closely by the Porsche, which was plagued with cold tire problems, doing a spectacular 360 spin on a fast corner.

After the big boys with their toys had their fun, we were told about an event they invented so everyone could compete regardless of car speed.
Everyone lined up about 200 metres before the last corner, and went one at a time, driving around the corner, up the straight and past the finish line. The point was to try and get as close to a secret time as possible. Kinda like a guess how many lollies in the jar competion.
The time was 43 seconds, and the St Johns ambo did it in 43.4 seconds, under suspicous circumstances, as it had a CB radio! :P
The day ended at around 3pm with a few prizes awarded, and i think everyone had fun..
I know i certainly did!
It was the first time on a track and i learned alot about my car's capabilities!:bounce:bounce
