no
why would it be considered as classic?? didn't think it was ever touted as a "classic".
its a new car so it sort of defeats the "classic" label....

dont think it will happen.
unless it grabs the appeal of the aircooled in 20yrs. but then us die hards will still have our aircooled's anyway.👍

Ask us again in 30 years time.... 🙂
Maybe if it was made of Steel instead of plastic. I don't think in 30 years that all the bits will still be attached... You can' really "rat" plastic. my 2c worth
"Tell him 'We've already got one'"
the whole concept of a 'new' beetle basically excludes it from being a classic.
if they are still around in 30 years time, then they will be.
of course by that time classic bugs will be vintage 😀
in the beginning, the universe was created.
this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

NASTY SISTA, i meant no cause like some said 30 years is where a car is considered a classic, 50 vintage etc etc
How can it be a classic? It is NEW!?!?
Are the new GT's classics? Are the new Mustangs the same as the old? What about the new Mini Cooper? Nope.. not even close.
They are styled on modern times, with modern safety and modern looks. Full stop.
THE LOWEST WITH THE MOSTEST BLING BLING WINS!!
Maybe when they are about 25 years old. it will be interesting to see if people still want to keep them and if parts will be available..

There's an active NB scene in the US, but they have active Saturn and Scion scenes as well.
I personally think that the NB will attain the classic status given time. Sort of like the first GTI and the Sirocco have become. Certainly, I don't think any other Golf IV based car besides the Audi TT will come close.
thanks,
Andrew

Who cares wether its a classic or not. Its still made by the factory that made our aircooleds and thats good enough for me. Id like to actually know how many of you so called aircooled diehards actuall drive them 100% of the time anyway. I bet there's quite a few with a jap or holden or ford bangers for certain occations. One of my daughter's likes NB,s Y2K's in particular. The others like my Oval and Kombi. If a certain car is not to your liking there is nothing wrong with that but someone else dose love it, and it suits their needs, surely thats worth respecting?
This attitude is whats wrong with the VW crowd. Im the president of an any make Vintage club, ranging from a early porsche 911 to a model A ford. When I turn up in the Beetle and have done something to it, all the others come over to have a look and ask questions, or give feedback, It's not always positive, but there is nothing wrong with "constructive criticisim" and I dont get from the Porsche owner "who cares its just a shitbox VW"
Another thing that makes me laugh is, you see someone turn up to a VW show in a heap of junk that they have never polished or laid a spanner on and then you see that same person criticising someones 3 year skinned knuckle resto cause it has the wrong wiper blades on it. I find this amazing!
I realise all this blurb I have been going on with dosent have much to do with the title of the thread, but I think there is too much negativity towards the NB. Its still a VW, and therefore I like it as much as any other VW and Im quite happy to talk to their owners about what they have done to them.
To those of us who ride motrcycles, I could use this as an example of the "whats a classic" thing. the "Vincent Black Shadow", 30 years ago you couldn't give one away! Jap fours had hit the scene (750 four, and Z900) and Vincent's were considered too unreliable and leaked oil all over your jeans (a heap of shit) what are they worth now!

I do, a splitty, and had done up til a little while ago til when i acquired a golf, but still drive the splitty more than the golf...
But i think its obvious, they wont be a classic, but neither will a t5 transporter, so if anyone has one that they want to sell cheap, im up...
I think they will over time. They are different from the norm, and this sets them apart from the rest of the current modern designs. Buy a classic car magazine and have a look at what makes it into the page's. I think you all may be suprised. BMW K series bikes were ridiculed by the old aircooled mob it was a complete change of design (watercooled) when they were released 22 years ago, there were the same paralel critisiisms IE no style, bland, no character, ect ect. They now have a faithful following and are considered to be a "classic" bike. Time moves on, who would have thought that a Golf or Holden torana sunbird (1976) would be eligable for historic/Vintage rego!

i do! a split screen kombi... considered a classic as it represented a piece of the world history. it is realated to as the 'original hippie van!' and it generates a lot of memories and emotions in a lot of people, whether they be hippies, wanna be hippies, or are jsut envious of hte happy go lucky lifestyle.
beach buggy for those hot days, as well. a classic as you jsut cannot replicated the manxz and JnS's anymore. it demonstrates a total disregard for all the RULES that we have to put up with.
and as for bikes. i stuck with aircooled, and went he buell firebolt. :P :P fuk those japcrappers. give me something that rattles and vibrates and squeeks and tells you everyday that you are living and not jsut commuting!

A work recognized as definitive in its field.
I'm not sure if the NB will ever be defined this way because it's really just an adapted copy rather than a whole new concept (feel free to disagree if you will). But then I spose lots of other cars are called classics and they don't either. Spose we'll just have to wait and see what history says.
🙄
i do drive my 54 classic beetle everyday, but if i kept it up the odds for it surviving d%#khead 'other' drivers who pull out in front of you are not good..
so bring on another modern daily driver vw or not to wreck and crash as ther are plenty of them still around..
