It would be branded "golde"

The original Golde tops will normally have Golde printed on the handle....also the rails which the assembly slides in are generally polished aluminium. Britax or other repro tops often have a black surround right around the opening. Once you've seen an original assembly it will generally be fairly easy to spot the difference.
In terms of whether an original ragtop (golde) has been grafted into a hard top bug (like mine), well if done well you shouldn't really be able to tell unless you rip out the headliner to see if there are any joins/welds. Here is my Golde top that was grafted in:
And here is an unrestored one!!

'Ah, whatever................'
just a few aussie facts to help you...rag roof bugs were produced up to 1965 chassis no 195 [first 3 digets]was the last of them...66 on had the steel slider with a average of only 80-90 cars produced a year from the clayton factory...aussie spec....the short of it is these cars are rare..good luck in tracking one down and enjoy cheers steve
are you talking about a rag top, or a steel sliding sunroof?
sliders were only factory fitted to 1967 models.
Most people seem normal, till you get to know them.
Does anybody know if it possible to buy new tops for Britax roofs?
Pay your debts, CxxT
Original Ragtops also have the raised "Bead" in the roof in front of the ragtop. Look closely at the first photo.
Cheers
Graham.
Britax is still around Vwcool you can still purchase britax rags for beetles.
