I went to buy/lease a Passat wagon today (well test drive at least) they are apparently NLA in australia. The earliest I can expect to get one is April.

Phhht VWA sucks. I have a Liberty lined up tomorrow for a thrashing. Probably a better cheaper car anyway.

Just test drove a liberty. Was nice, but the forrester goes harder and is cheaper. 😉

Actually decided on a pug 307 HDi touring in the end. Cheaper than the forester, 2l/100km less fuel consumption and 130litres more boot space. Goes real nice too, even the 1.6diesel, although we are going for the 2l...100kw and 320nm of torque!!! :thumb

We test drove the new Jetta FSI turbo the other day; goes like a scalded cat with the GTI motor; I'm talking 0-100km/h in under 7 seconds, on paper at least. It has a great 6 speed auto.
Beautiful car but no wagon in the range
(although the boot is huge).
There is also a turbo diesel, about 320NM torque.
They're not due in 'til next month.
We can't decide between the diesel or FSI......nice problem to have. I suppose...
ps. I'm not a salesman!:P

The whole wagon issue is the problem we've had. I'd have a golf TDi tomorrow, but the missus needs a wagon with No.2 on the way.

What is it with car companies today, they don't sell medium sized wagons... 🙁

...and the Pug diesel doesn't come with an auto option, which my wife
insists on..... and around we go again!

I drove the Liberty today also. Its a nice car... not quite as nice as I thought it would be. Expected slightly more grunt, the steering is too light, my arse on just fit in the seat. The seats are comfortable though, ride is smooth, turn in very nice, hanldle bumps under cornering very well. Comes pretty well specced but.... I am a biased Lancer driver. A Llancer is $10,000 cheaper, only 6kw and 6Nm short of the liberty (although higher in the rev range), and has a better warranty. So unless something odd happens I will probably go for the Lancer. The Liberty has more airbags, alloy wheels, trip computer and climate aircon, so is worth the extra cash I guess, but... HMMMM I want a liberty but the $10,000 is a killer. If I trade my current lancer I can get 1 new lancer and one newish lancer for the price of a liberty.

That's pretty much what I thought of them too. A lot of money for an AWD (read bad fuel economy) and a boxer engine. Camry's are actually better value, shame they are bland as and don't come in a wagon anymore.

Sorry, but Mitsubishis (Evos excluded) 👎

My oldies had two and they sucked. Also, a mate of mine used to sell cars, he tells his friends under no circumstances buy Mitsubishis, you are doomed to loose money on them from the instant you drive out of the dealership.

Can you ask your mate which car I should buy that I wont lose money as soon as I exit the driveway?

I've owned 3 mitsubishis. a 93 1.8 lancer, a 94 magna, and at present a 97 1.5 lancer.

The 93 was an excellent car. Corollas at that time (and now) are bland. Hyundai Lantra and S-Coupe were abominable. Pulsar was good value for money, but seats were horrible. On par with an old kombi just about. The only reason I sold that car was because at the 18month service, mitsubishi albion park fucked it. They changed the coolant (with what I dont know) and from that moment I couldnt keep a radiator in it for longer than a couple of months. My neighbour (same colour) and a friend bought one too and had no problems.

I ditched that with the shits one day and traded it on athe 94 magna 2.6. Now that indeed was a piece of shit. I sold it a couple of months later.

The 98 lancer is pretty good but not AS good as the 1.8. Not because of the smaller engine but lower spec. Doesnt have cup holders or folding rear seat, seams to be a bit noisier, probably missing some sound proofing. It has 180000kms on it and other than a rear wheel bearing that needs replaced has given us no problems. Neighbour has also upgraded his lancer (but got a different colour this time) and neighbour on other side has also just bought a late model lancer.

I love my lancers. And with the warranty you get from mitsubishi... if something does go wrong, who cares.

Seriously stick with the lancer....trust me, my partner is a panel beater.
I had a head-on (not my fault) in my 99 MR lancer and it stood its ground, it wrote the other car off too(falcon), hehe. The lancer was a goner too but the car would have been so much worse off (and myself) if i was driving a liberty (actually all suburu's). They (subie's)just crumple really really bad, the metal is rediciously thin. They fold at the sight of your bum leaning on a guard.

So ALL cars are going to loose money on them as soon as you driveaway....seriously think about a demo or even a few year old model. I only bought new cause i couldnt find the specs i wanted on a second hand car.

Go into EURO if you can...you will really feel the difference...if not VW, go Audi.

Cheers

My point was, you lose more money on Mitsubishis than on any of the other major manufacturers (i'm not including Hyundai and Daewoo in the major brands). My friend had one experience after the next where people were trying to trade in lancers and got less on trade in for no other reason than the car was "a mitsubishi". He'd say to his colleague, "karn mate, I'm a friend, surely you can do me a deal", and they'd answer, "if it was any other brand I could, but it's a lancer". And Magna's hold their value about as well as drunken footballers. Why do you think they changed the name to 380? Why do you think they offer such a big warranty? Coz otherwise people won't buy them. I'm not saying they are all crap cars, but unfortunately their reputation precedes them.

Now if you want testimony of a good car...my wifes 1.3L suzuki cino has done 250k plus. Original engine, gearbox, CLUTCH, rear brake shoes. I won't go on. Sorry, if I sound negative, but being in a similar position to you and wanting a medium sized car with an engine 2l or 2 litres plus, the lancer should have been a shoe in for us, but it's not, because I can't afford to loose the sort of money you do on a mitsubishi. That's all. No offence intended. 🙂

no offence taken... well only a little tiny teeny bit but sure it wasnt your intention 🙂... A while back I had a brief look at comparing resale values of lancers and corollas on redbook values. Lancer seemed better or same to me. Corolla is smaller, much lower spec, only $1000 cheaper, gearshift horrible (although they stick like glue to the road) and just arent in the race. The salesman I dealt with could only come up with "toyota have a good name" as a reason for buying. He then went and got his 'business manager' (ie some silly little teenage blonde tart good for looks only) and she was supposed to give me a cost of finance. She couldnt narrow it down within $50/fortnight. What the hell was she doing there. I think I was supposed to get a hard on and buy it. Fortunately my wife was there and we left without it. Only its been 6 weeks and I still dont have a car.

Im certain that the only reason they are the top selling model is because of fleet sales.
