Hi Gurus,

I just had my valve springs tested to ensure they're within spec for an Engle W125 cam with 1.1 rockers. Does anybody have specs, recommendations or know a website they can point me to to so I can check if these pressures are suitable?

Single springs at installed height 105 lbs
Single springs at full lift (11.7mm) 195 lbs

Dual springs at installed height 155 lbs
Dual spirngs at full lift 280 lbs

Thanks

whos guru?.............

I always used the rule of thumb that if u take the weight of a single spring, multiply it by the number of springs u have, then divide that result by the amount of times that the movie Happy Gilmore starring Adam Sandler has been repeated on TV, that should give u the answer that u are after.
BUT...........if u use ratio rockers then u have to substitute the Movie happy Gilmore with National Lampoons Vacation.

No need for anyone else to reply, I've answered the question............

By the way, what does lbs stand for?

Hi CT,
That tension on the dual springs is more than enough on the seat, but I would check that you still have enough room to bind at full lift.
I used to use 140 seat tension on my W130 and it was fine control upto 7000 rpm, but I had to install it .060" from bind at full lift to achieve this.
With your 155lbs installed height pressure, you may need more room at full lift.
Those single springs will only be good enough to run the cam in.

Thanks Happy Gilmore in the Subaru. Fact: Subaru drivers are the next Volvo drivers!

Thanks to dumone and Dave for the link and the advice. I think I'm now hunting for a bit more spring room to avoid coil bind.

This engine will see 7000+ rpm so I'd better deal with it.

Thanks CT

Bella Habib? That sounds like a Vogue magazine inspired kebab shop.

Any of your japanese volvo driving mates know how deep you can machine the spring seating area in 040 heads in order to get a greater installed spring height without opting for longer valves?

The soy cabanossi is a secret recipie. Now everybody knows!

Its not relevant to this setup but FWIW, my 1200 F-Vee with the control cam (close enough to stock), stock 40 horse valves,1.1:1 (1600) rockers, shortened 1600 pushrods and stock springs with between 65Lb & 68Lb installed seat pressure will rev to 6400. Audible float at about 6600.

So there!
