G'day Guys/Gals

Just wanted to get some members thoughts/experiences on having brakes drilled and/or slotted.

I understand that this is done to help dissapate heat etc

1. but slotted vs drilled whats adv/disadv with each or do each have a specific function/use

2. do people find they help with general driving or is it only noticiable when pushed hard

3. does taking metal/contact area out vie drilling and slotting actually reduce braking capacity for general driving (or is this pad dependant)

Your best bet for day to day driving is vented rotors with slots only. The slots vent the gas from under the pads when they are cooked helping to stave off brake fade.

Drilling is a way of increasing surface area of the disks but with a well designed rotor its not really that necessary now. Even the likes of V8 Supercars rarely use drilled rotors.
Another issue with drilling them is it can, under extreme use lead to cracks radiating out from the holes.

Regardless of what you use, the difference between them is insignificant for a day to day driver but if you have a habit of pushing the brakes to the point of fade regularly, you first plan would be to try some upgraded pad linings (500Deg. or so) and see how you go.
Your next step would be to use vented and slotted rotors if you are still killing the brakes with upgraded linings.

was a brake link posted in a thread a while ago with an interveiw with a brake guru. Drilled rotors were said to not increase cooling much and mainly used just for looks, also wat 'E' said bout the cracks. Was a rotor with slots in the middle of the rotor which was said to be more effective at disipating heat. I got no idea wat the thread was called maybe some1 remembers.
