As part of my Visual Communication and Design folio for my final year at school I am designing and fabricating a fibreglass center console for between the driver and passenger seats in the front of my 1972 Squareback. I'm going to try and be as consistent with the european style as possible and try as hard as I can to keep it looking like a stock addition to the car.
As part of the market research section, would you lot be able to list all the stuff you'd want in a center console for your dub?

i.e Cupholders, Map storage, cigarette lighter. etc

I'll post my progress up here as I go along and keep you all up to date. Whether or not I keep it in the car afterwards will depend on how good the end product turns out, though I'm usually very fussy with the things I make :P

a tough but cool project!
Desirable accessories..
*cigarette lighter socket, for power.
*stash shelf
*blank area for custom fittings

Also
*If it did something more than just 'ended' a few centimeters back from its' facade..no gaping hole with a spaghetti of wires visible under the dash.
*If there was scope for custom colour matching..ie paintable or upholsterable areas.
*If the radio could stay in the stock position.

I imagine that those with a parcel shelf would like to be able to modify the console to accommodate it.

But then again, a good basic design can be modified by the determined!
best of luck!

p.s have you seen the scarce early aftermarket centre console?

They look alright but they're not what I'd personally want to fit!

dammit..you've made me think! (which hurts).
I had an idea:-
An all-the way-across-the-dash underhang would rock.
Just to add an extra 5 to 10cm below the dash, all the way along..
That would 'retain the look' more than a centre console..
This would also provide plenty of extra underdash real-estate for accessories and also not interfere with parcel shelves.
Having said that, I will now shut my feral gob🤓

CD's ? old technology. How about something to hold or connect a Ipod in to? That would be cool.

Yeah, I had one in my square, but it was broken in places, two of the gauges were smashed in, and it generally looked scruffy, i don't want the one I'm making to take up as much unnecessary space as that one did.

Thanks for the suggestions though.
