I have a 1970 Type 3 Fastback with the standard 165 15 inch wheels. I plan to put on some mag wheels to dress the car a bit. Can someone advise me of the type of stud pattern that I need to comply with. Are there any particular alloy wheels from other German or other cars that bolt on easily. thanks Greg

any change in stud pattern should have an engineers approval. but you could re drill for anything.

saying that though, i have a real nice RARE set of Ronal rims, made in west germany that you might like. they are 15 x 5.5 (i think) and are the standard four stud pattern. if you want some thing unique and rare, even more so here then drop me a line.

Thanks twoguns

The tyres I have are 165 (or 6.5 inches) wide. I am looking for some wheels that are at least that size of larger. Can you double check the size on your wheels. Also, how much did you want tof rhte wheels and where are you located in Australia? I'm in canberra....Greg

5.5 refers to rim width, not tyre size in 2guns post, so Im am pretty sure you will find that your stock rims are 5.5 or less, even though the tyres are wider. check the markings on the centre of the rim.

Thanks everyone.

I suppose the real question is what do I search for on Ebay for suitable mags that will fit the Type 3 configuration. Any help please? Greg

any four stud vw wheel pattern, but if you are wanting more than the usuall globes, empis, brms etc, then you either gotta look for some thing rare or of another source. ie 'rice' style with altered hubs on your ride to suit.

the stud pattern is 4 by 130mm, and apart from beetles, type 3's and the more unusual vw's the only other car/brand that uses this pattern i know of is a porsche 914.
hope this helps.

a cool site with a big wheel index, though most of the wheels would be big $$$ if you could find them/get them over here. still if you are a wheel perv like me they are nice to look at.
