Finaly, I have not been able to get on this site for months now so had to re register. Dont know what is stopping my old password...

Anyway. I have a kombi and am having a hell time getting my auto chokes to work.
One is new out the box, the other works just fine. Problem is how do I tune them?

I have tried to nut it out but am not sure it is right. What I have done is mark where the spring is sitting while cold on the removable part with the heater. Then placed them so the spring is about 5 mm from the arm of the lever that seems to engage the choke. Then turned the left one to the right and the right one to the left by 5mm. Now I may be wrong but what I think happens is that when the heater is on it uncoils the spring and pushes the arm of the lever till the mechanism is engaged. Or should the mechanism be engaged while it is cold and the spring as it warms disengage the mechanism?

Please can you help me? How do I fine tune the thing when I have it worked out?

Regards

Cop out - but read here

Sorry - but i dont understand the arm bit.

Almost all chokes work by being fully closed in the cold position. As it warms up the butterfly opens.
i just loosen the 3 screws and turn the spring so the butterfly is firmly closed.

put the chokes on and screw them either clockwise or anticlockwise (both got the same way which every way it is) and look down the carby throat. the top butterfly valve is the choke. Depending on condition set your choke accordingly. If you want max choke at start up then get the engine hot then back off the choke brackets and screw the chokes until you see the butterfly valve start to close then release it so that it is fully open when hot. When the engine cool off the chokes will close up.

The auto chokes are a resistor coil, plug 12v on and they heat and dialate... good luck with it
