Just curious if getting to double island is possible in a 2wd vehicle? Never having been there, am wondering whether to take kombi camper up there. Done a bit of a search on net, but doesnt say alot about the access, mainly says access via beach at low tide from noosa. But is it 4wd only? boggy and loose sand? Or should it be an easy drive for a 2wd? Any extra info about the place and/or access muchly apreciated.

its not too bad from memory - like most places though - its the getting onto and off the beach thats the killer - if its churned up something chronic it might become difficult due to the softness of the sand
used to be fantastic flathead fishing at double island point though!

have taken the baja up there and seen many buggies and Kombi's but yes best to do it on a low tide and depending on the time of year the exits onto the beach can be a bit soft. Don't even bother trying to get from double island point to rainbow as there is little to no sand down rainbow end and you will not be able to get past even at low tide. was up there last thursday and no one was getting past the rocks

Here's a pic of our kombi's up at Double Island Point....make sure you go at low tide, take a tow rope, and a few people to push...ours is jacked up 4 inches, but you should be ok in a stock kombi with a bit of patience.

Just take the Third cutting onto and off the beach if you're worried. When you get to the end of the bitumen turn left and follow it to the end and that'll take you onto the beach the easier way. Not as much fun as the first cutting but you should be OK.
Yeah good advice guys. Top photo 11CAB! A mate of mine went up to DI last weekend and said there were a couple of kombi's getting around. I asked if they were baja kombi's, but he didnt take that much notice. I'm keen as mustard to give it a go, and there are a group of us going, 3 4wd's. So finding someone to pull me out of a bog is no worries. I think my main concern is basically that it is stock height, maybe a tad lower with the extra weight being a camper, and with 205's that it might just keep wanting to drop on its belly. If one side decides to go down will i risk rolling it because it is a van? I guess its a case of being patient as you say, and following the high's when it comes time to getting on and off the beach. if only i could take my backhoe too, then there would be some nice smooth entry's/exits!!
