When I was supervising an earthmoving company in Melbourne the boss rang me and apologetically asked me to go to the Calder Raceway and to sweep the track. I hadn't driven a machine for months, but I said OK. I loaded up the 40 horse power tractor and road broom onto the trailer, and towed it out there with the company IH 1100 ute.
Just as I was about to start the last lap of the job, Bob Jane and a couple of other people arrived with their cars for a practice session and asked me when I would finish. I said that it was my last lap and could they confirm my staring time? They said yes and off I set. About 13 minutes later I came down to the finish line and it was agreed that I had established a new record for the slowest lap of the race track.
So there you have it. I have an unofficial slowest lap record of Calder to my name.
