am not 100% on this - but i am getting oil come out of the dipstick tube... like pushing its way up the tube and leaking over and out...

i have recently blocked completely the air/pressure/oil release on a stock gen stand (that would usually go to a breather box or on stock motors the carb air filter) and have no other means of pressure release as yet

would this be the cause? oil level is fine.

my understanding i guess would be that if i was to block off the passage i have, then pressure would build and as a result oil would push out any available out? through gaskets etc etc

is an 1835 with high comp

any help is appreciated

thanks nick

Nick,
Unblock the breather...
otherwise You will have oil coming out of everywhere...
With the 1835 engine You actually need More breathers..
You can buy breather attachments that go into the top of Your tappet covers...
these are just hose fittings... and hose goes to both tappet covers then thru a breather box which is usually mounted above the engine.... and then another hose from the breather box to the engine....

I took notice of breathers at the last VW Nationals in Sydney, as I was having breather problems as I took the original breather off My engine....
I placed another breather hose where the fuel pump usually goes... and oil comes out the other end... and
oil soaked into my air filter.....

so You DO NEED an engine breather....

I accidently blocked My normal breather with a piece of paper when painting...
and when i started the engine oil came out of everywhere including the dipstick....

Bond,
Blocking off the pedestal is causing your cases to pressurise and the oil's taking the path of least resistance.
On a VW the front pulley is meant to pump air in...and then there's blowby as well...

I'd vent it ASAP.

Yes,
there is no seal behind the crankshaft pulley,
so oil can blow out of there very easily...
there is a lot of pressure inside the case...
It needs to be vented.....

the original breather on the VW engine works fairly well..
on standard engines...
Check here for breather kits:--

The rubber hose coming off My alloy oil filler is My engine pressure vent at the moment and its all oily inside....
an oil vapour probably comes out of the hose....
