Yes,
How long since You greased the Front Torsion Bars on Your Beetle... ?? [excluding Supers]
My Haynes VW Beetle Owners handbook & servicing guide
[a great lttle book that should be in every glovebox]
says it should be greased every 3000 miles or 5,000 kms..
in other words... when You change the engine oil...
Now the best grease is Lithium based Moly grease...
You can buy it from most auto shops, service stns etc..
Even Big W has it [Castrol] .... You can buy it in tubs for wheel bearings or CV Joints... etc...
or in a tube for Your Grease gun... every VW owner should have one....
You just jack the front wheels off the ground with a trolley jack and two jack stands for safety... and grease the 4 grease nipples on the front of the torsion bar tubes
also grease any grease nipples on the balljoints or tie rod ends if You are lucky enough to have them...
Lithium based Moly grease will help stop the parts wearing
If You have a CV Joint making a noise some times...
Repacking with Lithium Moly grease will stop it making a noise and should stop further wear unless its badly worn to start with....
Also don't forget to put a drop of oil on the moving parts on Your carburetor/s... this was usually done on every oil change by the VW serviceman back in the 50s,60,& early 70s.... don't forget to oil Your door hinges too....
anything that moves, should be lubricated to stop further wear.... IMHO....
PS: A word of warning: Don't put any Lithium grease on anything that could be touched by Your clothes...
as it doesn't come off clothes.... its great stuff.... lol..
You can get sticks of dri-lube for Your door locks...
and seat runners... its clear and doesn't stain....
I hope this is of some help to other VW owners...

car forums. where a lot of peoples good intentions end up taking a good old car off the road forever never ever to see the road again. 🥲
Not everyone has a grease gun, jack stands, etc., so it would be really cool to have a greasing station at the next Jamboree/Valla/DOVW/Whatever where we could queue up for a proper greasing........

I WOULD do mine, but it seems I lost my torsion bar back in '71. I think they call it evolution...

That black grease that is !
Looking for that special lady : PM me for coffee & cake
That would be a great idea Peter, as its not a hard job and grease isn't all that expensive....
I believe that greasing the front end with the wheels on the ground is better than not doing them at all... as the grease will work itself around... and lithium based moly grease does last a long time....

shhh keep quiet boy. once the grog gets flowing and the lads get toey, you could be in for a $5 greasing.... only it would be your rear end not front end getting the lube job.
:P
Same applies for kombi's, but don't forget the grease nipple on the steering pivot pin (center of beam).
And while were getting a good lube job, a drop or two of oil down the shaft on your dissy, and a touch of grease on the points block is always a good idea.
Like most seem to say I do this every service.

Why do u ask 2 dogs LOL
Its more important to grease your K & Links as the grease tends to harden and wont allow new grease to penetrate and lubricate the critical areas
And don't forget to wipe off any excess grease that escapes from seals etc. otherwise you end up with a beam caked in crud.
Matt.
This post was just designed to help people who don't know about this important service - greasing....
If Your front end is greased at every 3000miles with Lithium based Moly grease and not some clay or soap based chassis grease, the grease should not give You any problems... I never used to wipe My grease nipples or front end off until I greased it the next time....
the lithium based grease will protect any metal against rust
Not that its a big problem in Australia...
but in the UK Europe and parts of the USA.... where salt and other chemicals are used on the roads in winter...
the shock towers actually get eaten away with rust & corrosion.... [plus heater channels etc]
We Are lucky We don't have that major problem.... imagine having to replace all Your guards every few years as they are eaten away....

hear hear. wouldn't hurt to give ya wheel a shake too to see if there's any freeplay. My old link pins weren't geting ANY lube as the old lube had solidified and efectively plugged up the inside of the grease port... squeak squeak squeak...
...and Robert's ya father's brother...
I'm sure the grease blocking up the grease passages in the Link Pin front ends wasn't Lithium based Moly grease but probably clay based chassis grease.... usually green...
although Castrols is yellow?? but I suppose it can be any colour....
Lithium based Moly chassis grease shouldn't go hard in 3000 miles or even a year or so...
I have been using it since My Father bought it in 1962 to use on His Beetle...
The Moly part is Molybdenium disulphate with extreme pressure additives.. Castrol LMM... Black colour...
Its great in front wheel drive Constant Velocity joints too.
