When I lived in Genoa in Italy and worked as a tutor in an English Language school, my Italian friends used to get me free drinks in the bars by calling me Mister Richard, because Mister is the Genovese dialect word for football coach. I'd fake that I was a football coach in bad Italian and the locals would ply me with drinks and back slapping badinage, which of course I didn't understand. The reason for that is that soccer was taught to the Genoese and ultimately the Italian pepole by English sailors from the English warships that were stationed in Genoa before the First World War.
It's a bit ironic that when English speaking people are playing them to a draw in the game that they taught them, that Latin histrioncs come to the fore.
Perfect score of 10 for a swan dive
It's only soccer.
Real men play league!
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
The problem wasn't with the penalty at the end of the game. The problem was that for nearly 45 minutes, we couldn't score against them even though we had 1 more player on the field than they did.
If we had taken advantage of this as we should have, that goal at the end would have only led to maybe a penalty shoot out or if we could have scored more than once, it would be no problem at all.
Don't get me wrong, I think the guys did us all proud but I think the feeling of being robbed is wrong as WE didn't do what we needed to to win.
My two cents worth.
