The vacuum canister and ATF fluid reservoir sit on each side of the car, in the rear apron. they just bolt in. However, being a baja, this apron has been cutoff, and the areas where they had mounted has long gone, lol.
Need ideas of where to put em. There is no more room on either side as they touch the rear wheels, or don't fit under the rear guards, on the inner side, they pump into the engine, same goes for putting em on the fire wall.
was thinking... possibly mount em on the bar work... but would look untidy i spose. or mount them inside in the parcel tray having the tubes and water run through into the engine compartment by drilling a few holes.
so those are my 2 options.
A) Mounting on barwork. DILEMMAS: Vulnerability to vandals, rocks, mud, trees, trying to work out how to mount them exactly, and when taking off the barwork, would be nuisance to take off and unplug those canisters at the same time.
B) Mounting in parcel tray. DILEMMAS: less storage room, holes drilled in body allow noise to come in etc, if atf fluid needs to be bleed and replaced, mess would go inside car.
Hmm, would be an excuse to have the filler hanging outside, look sporty like on athe 240z datos (their fuel filler) lol.
What u guys think? U got any other options? I thought about bolting even on the fan shroud outta some stupid consideration i had, but no room on that either.

69' baja: kombi box, thing spindles, irs, disc front, type 3 rear drums, 2 inch lift kit, 31x10 rears. 👍
New engine in process: 94mm p&bs, 74mm C/w chomol Crank, 35.5x39 SP heads, turbo. Wierd combo, hopeful torque monsta!
I'd go for the parcel tray area

cheers mate 😀
Yeah, ur right. i will see how i can mount them in there tomorrow. theres plenty of room there, and doesn't make it look as though my car has testicles.
At the moment, a complete engine is in, bolted, mounted, just wiring and those canisters placed and she will be running!!! :o:o:o

Chris,
For the vacuum tank, what about a length of say 100mm OD pipe and end caps welded on, mounted to the decklid mounts? A 12mm hole in it and a short length of 12mm pipe for the hose to connect to?
If you have the room?
Ctefeh
Hmm,certainly an idea. was thinking about welding on mounts for em... prob is, no welder lol. sucks not having the tools. today itself was a stuggle, putting an engine in, on uneven ground, with one lousy trolley jack and just myself trying to balance the bastard, adjust the jace, pushit forward and turn the crank to mesh it up with the tranny. Lol
But yeah, hmm, what about if i bolted on the mounts than welded Hmm...

Chris,
Is the bar work around the engine hollow? Is there a length of about 700mm you could use?
How about drilling a hole for a tapered brass air fitting (as close to the solenoid as possible), screwing it in with sealer and teflon tape? Just drilling one hole......albeit fairly big.....
Ctefeh
hmm, tru.
I'm not even sure i want to use this rear bar. Its not exactly a cage, and has such poor ground clearance, + the mounts on the shock towers, well the one on the left of the car doesn't even clear the metal in the wheel guard, and i dont wanna chop more of that, cause its strong stuff and would decrease its strength....
Think parcel tray might be the go... got 10 mins to decide before i work on it out the back Lol. will contimplate all options though

Nah mate, they were dry as a bone when taking em off. were sealed under a cosy decklid before they were taken off (by me 😀) and the baja conversion took place.
engine was on a good trade deal too, no $$, just parts that were useless to me.
