Upon opening distributor 114 905 205z found rotor burnt out .
What would be the cause/cure of this???

The central brush in the cap wears out making the spark jump further & further = XS heat+ burnout.
The brush is spring loaded but they collapse with time.
Cure is to replace rotor & cap together

Hello,
Do you have a PERTRONICS or other electronic ignition with aftermarket coil? I put a kit on my brothers 009 dizzy with a coil, burned his rotor up from too high a voltage,we had the wrong resister on coil, hence too high volts.I hope this helps,
Mike

Get a rotor with the copper from centre to outside/without the resistor. These wont "burn out".Any aftermarket ignition upgrade will kill your stock rotor after a while.Always carry a spare just in case if you can't get a non resistor type.Mick Motors is where i bought my last one from...forum sponsor...👍

Volkswagen Rotor buttons have a Resistor built into the top of them
they are the only one I know that has this...
You can buy resistorless rotors in the USA..
but I don't know of any in Australia....
best to always carry a spare...
I have heard of this happening before....

High Voltage ignition systems make the problem happen more often....
Soldering a piece of thin copper would also work...
soldering a piece of copper wire doesn't really work as it disturbs the distributor cap carbon button...

There maybe a rotor button from another vehicle that fits VWs, but I don't know of any....
