OK, I got a new steering damper, pulled the old one off to replace and this is the result:

Because of the extra length, it reduces the turning angle in one direction.

So what have i got? My car is a type3 based kit.

It could be one for a Beetle
Its not a super beetle 1302S as I have one here, and a bolt goes in one end....
I know We would think that a type 3 damper would be longer seeing its a larger car...
but that may not be the case...
I could have measured Mine a couple of days ago as I had it off while I adjusted My front end....
I'll see if I can get a measurement...

Does your car have T3 pitman arm and tie rod ends - or Beetle? The T3 steering damper terminates in the Pitman arm; the Beetle in the inner 'long' tie rod end

Thanks for the responses.

Took a quick trip down to Southside VW with both dampers and the very helpful gentleman there explained to me that the new one I had was indeed for a Beetle. He supplied me a new Type3 one which is now fitted.

The end result is, does anyone want a new Boge BEETLE damper for $25? It cost me that, but retails for over $50 apparently. I'll place it in for sale.

Thanks again,

Mick.

Can anyone identify whether the new unit in the photo is for Beetle or Super Beetle? My research suggests that the 59-79 beetles (Ball and King) use the same type, but the Super is different.

Potential buyer needs to know.

Thanks,

Mick.
