Okay- so after my previous post asking for front end advice it ends up being the rear end afterall that (Thanks to a diagnosis from Boris at the Leyburn Sprints). So am now seeking advice how to adjust using a protractor- I have got the basic idea but was wondering whether anyone had a link or article I could refer to or any issues to be aware of. I only have to raise the drivers side a tad- not a notch.
Oh and Mackaymanx gets a lolly for previously suggesting that the problem could be in the rear.
Thanks in advance
Peter

The one I use is a part of a "combiation set",
but any tool shop like bunnings or Glenfords should stock a welders protractor
(with a magnet usually but that is unneccessary), that will do the trick.
On beetles one degree is about 1/4 inch ride height change,
and one spline up on the car, and one down on the spring plate,
is 50'( or 5/6 of a degree).

Dont know if it states in the above articles ( i am sure it does ) but make sure you have the car level before you start adjusting, Do this by placing the protractor on the center tunnel behind the hand brake and level with jack stands
Good to see Boris could give you some advice
Just to clarrify- VW54- now when you say place the protractor behind the handbrake I take it that you are meaning the spirit level- or have I missed something again..
Yes Boris was very helpful- though he wasnt offering driving advice after collecting a haybail on the first corner on his first run.

Yeah the protractor has a level in it or you can use a small spriit level this is so you have a base measurement to work from
Buggar i waish i had of gone up with him now might of had a drive myself in the car .. ( and could of hit the other Hay bails n Tyers ) yeah Hay bails do get in the way sometimes
Thanks for the lolly BrisDubba I've got a bit of a sweet tooth.
When I did my buggy I put it on a level surface and measured the spring plate angles.
Then I jacked it up to where I wanted it( put the jack under the centreline of the car, easier with a buggy with an engine cage).
Then measure the spring plate angles again.
Calculate the difference in angles.
And then adjust.

Just been thinking about this, you could jack it from both side until you get the desired ride height and then measure.

First thing I do is work out how much higher or lower you want.
This may need flat ground.
Lets say 25mm ?
This will need a change of 4 to 4.5 degrees in your spring plate angle.
I dont do this with the car level.
I just measure the angle of the spring plate before,
and adjust the splines until I get the angle change I need.
As long as the angle change is correct, then it wont matter if the car is level when you work on it.
Just make sure the car is on steady supports for safety.

Thanks guys- my Bunnings must be the pov version as they didnt have a protractor/ spirit level and Glenfords was closed by the time I got there..
The Passenger side is the right height (it is lowered) so will just mirror that angle.
I just measured the difference at the rear and it is 15mm lower on the drivers side (when looking from the rear and measured from both sides of rear apron) which would just get worse when I add my 90kg (but I used to be a size 8)
