I have a 71 square with a 1600 engine with twin carbies.
My tank takes about 45 litres, so thats around $55 to fill and I seem to get around the 270-300 mile mark, so roughly 440 to 480km from one full tank. But my car has been known to leak fuel when it turns left (bad hoses that I haven't fixed yet) and I don't drive all that sensibly when I get onto the highway 🙂
'Ah, whatever................'
My 1600 twin carb used to get around 300km to a tank, generally put in around 30L at each fill, so 10L per 100km. You would expect the 1500 single carb to use a bit less than this.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.
yeah, i get about 12l/100km around town, but thats mostly because it is very short trips and a hilly area. on long trips and highway cruises she drops down to 8l/100km or slightly less. thats a '72 wagon, 1600 twin carb

Nice,

10 litres/100 is about as good as it gets! Maybe a bit better on a long run. Get rid of the single carb and use the twin setup. More grunt and same economy.

All Squarebacks had popouts up to 1971!
Early model moustaches are getting a bit hard to find here now. The longer 66 model is more plentifull.
Good luck with your "new wheels". Look after it as good ones are hard to find now .

early mo's turn up on samba for 35-65 bucks + shipping. I got a later one dinged up for free.

factory figures (half payload at 3/4 of top speed, +10%):
(1584 cc, 65 bhp, 7.7:1 CR, 86.8 ft.lbs. at 2,800 rpm, 84 mph max, 34 mpg)
84 mph = 135.184896 kph
34 (US) miles per gallon = 6.91807601 l/100km
34 (imp) miles per gallon = 8.31 l/100km
FI Automatic, speed 81 mph max, 30 mpg
81 mph = 130.356864 kph
30 (US) miles per gallon = 7.84048614 l/100km
30 (imp) miles per gallon = 9.42 l/100km
anyone know what units were used with these numbers? Imp. looks right, US gallons figure looks optimistic.
1966 Wheels road test:
28.2 miles per gallon average
28.2 (US) miles per gallon = 8.34094271 l/100km
28.2 (imp) miles per gallon = 10.02 l/100km
32-34 miles per gallon cruising
32 miles per gallon = 7.35045576 l/100km
32 miles per gallon = 8.83 l/100km
