Ive gota 1600 twin carb engine in my type 3, just changed plugs, points, leads, cap and rotor arm recently to try to cure the problem.
Butits still there, so next job is to pull the carbs off and clean them out properly, the right hand one smells more petroly than the left so think it could be an imbalance in carbs causing it.
Or is it just blocked up old carbs?
when i first got my baja it had a massive flat spot
set tappets, set points, set timing correctly, rebuilt carbie
now its perfect and thats with a 009.

What Fuel are you using , when i run Preium in my Manx with the old progressive carby it always had a flat spot but was instantly gone with standard unleaded.
I got the info of here but can't remember where
Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel
using premium with aditive as old owner told me to, will try normal unleaded and see if that helps
if ur just putting a lead substitute in dont bother vws dont need it
theyve been built to handle unleaded since leaded fuel became unavailble in the states in the 70s
my next door neighbours sister had an auto notch with a 009 and it had a horrible flat spot
its mainly 34 pict 3s and twin solexs that show up the flat spot most
but it can be gotten rid of with a small bit of work

I had the same trouble with my type 3 it turned out to be the accellorator pump on one of the carbies was stuffed so rebuilt both carbies and it went fine and that was with a 009
