Yeah they tested coke and aluminium foil on Mythbusters.. it worked a treat! Still not brave enough to try it myself.. i reckon it'd be messy!
I personally use Brite Shine.. comes in a tin.. just tear a peice off, rub it on, then rub it off with a cloth.. does a great job, and the tin seems to be never-ending.. i've had the same lot for about a year now.

Once you have them all shiney, coat them with a layer of beewax. Seals them up and will slow down the rust comin back. Cause it will of you dont. The chrome job on Mangels wheels is very thin.

are We talking about really really dirty? [maybe rusty]??

I haven't tried anything yet...

but the chromed 15 inch wide wheels on My beetle get waxed every week with Meguiars Carnaubra Wax...

try fine steel wool from the hardware and a squirt of inox, cleans exceptionally and a quick wipe with a:beer rag and a bit more inox and there is your protection:

brake fluid and a wire brush, then wipe with turps and polish with brasso.... ok... not sure how well it works on Mangels, but it works a charm on chrome Kombi hubcaps. 👍
