what the hell is going on every time i fix something something else breaks!!!

seem to have sorted my clutch problems and it is now behaving ok.

but what i initially thought was a part of the clutch engaging slowly was that my engine is rather gutless since putting it back in after the new clutch fork.

its also popping at idle v4ery lightly at idle and at revvs.

i re set the timing and notcied that it turns over very easily now when before it used to have amazing compression.....as in before i removed the egnine from the car it had great compression and it was diffcult to turn the engine over and had great low power and torque.

since putting the engine back in it now turns over rather easily and is....well gutless all through the rev range.

ive had it running and taken off plug leads one by one with the engine slowing down accordingly to normality when leads are removed.

have borrowed a decent compression tester off a mate and will test tonite.

but what the hell has happend to my nice tight grunty engine:cry

how could i lose compression over night?

You could have a tight valve or two.

When was the last time you checked them?

forgot to say i check the valves yesterday morning.

and didnt adjust them asthey were all .006 a couple were slightly tighter than others but still fit the feeler blade in.

but this is why its weird because i havent adjusted the valves and it was running fine before the engine was taken out. the valves surely couldnt adjust themselves tighter while the engine was out.

ok just did compression test.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!

ive got 135 in 1 2 and 3 and a little bit higher in 4.

sounds like pretty respectable compression to me?

why does the pulley turn so easy now?

wheres my engine braking gone?

wheres the power gone?

Compression seems fine, quiet good actually. Perhaps the pulley turns easier now that it is only the engine you are turning over and not part of the clutch throw out bearing assembly......You said you checked the timing, was it out? Have you checked it again?? You didn't by any chance "bump" the intake system (carby etc) when removing/re assembling the engine to the car, perhaps causing intake air leaks?? Or the exhaust to cause any leaks (would cause "popping")? I'd definetly check the timing and fuel system out.......good luck.:beer

would intake problems etc cause lack of engine braking?

i might pull the top of the carby tomorrow and make sure everything is tight.

seems i may have had a bad batch of fuel which was causing the popping etc and the carby still seems to have some gunk lodged in there somewhere as every now and then it goes funny again but since getting a fresh batch of premium its been ok.......but this still doesnt explain engine braking.

maybe im just getting parnoid and inventing problems....

You are parenoid....you just want to rebuild the car from the inside out while you need to drive it !!!:P You have had a bad run of luck...get out and drive it and enjoy it while it's still working !!!! Don't worry about "engine braking"...that swhat brakes are for!!!:P Hope it goes forever😵🙂😉
