Hi Dave,
You can fit one of those 70-80s style under the dash unit
or place this unit under the bonnet and put some round air vents in the dash...
I think Kombis had large round vents.. and many other 70s-80 cars had them...

I believe the air con places in the USA that make units to fit VWs..
are ONLY made in LHD.. and those units go from one side of the cabin to the other...
so not really suitable..

cheers

Thanks Lee. Outa sight would be the way to go.

Will those type of A/C units run ok with the existing generator setup?

Ill keep a lookout for underdash unit and go from there.

Cheers

I was going to put one of those units under the bonnet and run two air ducts back to the dash..
I have collected air vents from a few cars...
I would have used the aluminium tubing as used on beetle engines or similar..

I've only ever seen air con compressors on Beetle engines,
I've never seen one on a type 3 engine..
In the US, most VW engines have idler pulleys to keep the belt tensioned..
so, nothing is impossible.. just a darn sight harder..

I have seen a beetle engine with an alternator sitting next to the generator and the one belt going round them
the generator still had the fan on the other end...
some of the set ups I've seen, the belt only sat in the pulley for say 90 degrees...
I didn't think the belt could work unless it was in about half way round the pulley -
idler pulleys do help in those situations..

cheers

I currently have the same unit as above in the kitcar I'm doing up.

All the pipework runs along the centre channel but the unit is still mounted under the dash.

Anyway I will be removing this system, so it will be for sale complete with all the pipework to suit a T3. If you are interested drop me a line.
