Hello all, I was wondering if it is required to have amber turn signal lenses front and rear in Aus on a 56 ghia

Not if the car didn't originally have them..

YES

You will need AMBER Rear blinkers...

RED blinkers are illegal and were only used in the USA...
still are used over there...

clear or amber at the front...

clear lenses are fine as long as u have amber bulbs fitted
i had clear taillights on my bug and just had amber bulbs and they passed rego
only problem is the locating lugs are offset differnt but just file one off they work fine

u can also get chrome looking bulbs that are amber as well so the orange bulb doesnt ruin the look of ur altezza lights

My Son added a blinker bulb to inside the early 56 beetle headlamps..

and painted the bulbs amber..

and passed the blue slip test OK...

He used early Beetle reversing lamps on the rear bumper irons with amber coated bulbs...
