everyones got a few sorties about the stuff/cars that might have been.

just after i got into vw's a friend offered me an imaculate set of rostyles (SA sprintstars) for about $300... my reply was thanks, but they're sssooo ugly...

about 2 years ago i was staying at my parients, my dad went up to the local shopping centre and decided to have a look in a shop that sold mens gifts for model cars to suit his and my modelrailways (1/87 & 1/43.5 scales) and got talking to the guy standing next to him. he was into older british cars or something but when VW's came up the guy said "i used to be a VW mechanic, i've still got a box of old factory tools at home". to which my dad replied how much his son would think that was cool or something similar, said his goodbyes, then left...
yes i still want to strangle him every time i think about it.

what chances have you missed?

busbay you just reminded me of 2 others:

an imaculate (but very dusty... oh no!) Austin A30 that some friends and i found as kids while poking around looking for cool stuff (or stuff to break) when they were building the F1? freeway through wahroonga. it was in a garage that was about to be demolished (the house had already gone), when i asked my folks could i get it they just said "what would you want a clapped out old car for?" not exactly an A90 Atlantic but i saw it upside down after it had been bulldozed to a different spot and it had no rust.

in early to mid teens i used to trawl the herald classifieds looking at car adds and saw and add for a Jaguar XK150 FHC for 3K (this was just before or during the late 80's classic car boom). i talked to the guy several times, the price wasn't a miss print and he was happy to sell it to a kid as he could tell how keen i was. the car had been stored for 15 years, was running but had no brakes, a dent in one front guard and "no it's got no rust, it has an alloy body"!!!!!! i now understand why my folks wouldn't lend a 13/14yo $3000 (a fair amount back then) for a car but still...
i wonder where it ended up

I've mentioned this before. The biggest one that got away from me was a 1935 Jaguar SS Saloon (not the SS100 sports car) for $200 in 1969. It was complete in running order and needed either a resoration or some TLC to be a daily driver.
