OK say I start with a beetle and a buggy shell. And I strip the beetle down to the floorpan, and put on a buggy shell. What do I need to do to register it, roll bars, engine covers, where and ho do i attach the roll bars etc. Please anybody who has done it before of has any ideas about it, please let me know if it is worth making my own buggy.
Also if I purchased a buggy registered in another state, must it go over the pits to get Wa Rego? Or can I keep it in interstate rego? or do i just fill out papers and change it over?

Hi willg, having finished construction of a buggy last year and getting it rego'd in ACT, I can tell you it is a big hurdle putting new rego on a buggy, as opposed to getting a current buggy re-rego'd.
You will need to check with the rego mob in WA on the exact details but I had a lot of problems getting a new buggy done, and many times I was told by the rego mob here that it is all due to the fact that it is classed as a new car, not an old one being re-done.
The engineering certificate alone can cost you heaps of $$, you will sometimes see people selling a bare ban or body with a engineering certificate, solely because it is already covered and its worth $$.
Much easier buying something already rego'd elsewhere and converting, because it has a history on the system somewhere, as opposed to something new.
I'm not saying this because I have a buggy for sale, purely lessons learnt after getting mine done last year. A lot of heartache. I've moved quite a bit and changed normal car rego's over between 3 or 4 states....and getting the buggy done from scratch was the worst thing I've done.
