Can the tinware and oil cooler be replace from a 1600 twinport out of a beetle with the tinware off the type3 engine, are all the bolt holes there? or is the oil cooler in the wrong place?

Yes as long as it is a universal case ie:has the 3off mount points around the oil pump area and has a removeable plate where the type 3 oil filler goes in the bottom r/h rear corner of the sump.
Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel

which no factory beetle motors had
its only replacement cases that had those

u'd have to tap the engine mount threads in and also bore a filler hole and tap in some studs
as well as block off the original beetle dipstick and oil pressure switch hole

i have seen a few type 3s getting around with upright tinware
an option in a fasty or notch but not so in a sqaure

just make sure if u do go that way to seal the tinware off properly

Is the engine for a pre 70? No probs with engine mount for early ones. Cap off dip stick hole, drill and stud for type 3 filler/dipstick.

All 1500 VW engines were the same as those used in 1500 [early type 3s] VWs..
the plate is there for the dipstick etc....
the oil cooler is no problem...

could be a bit tricky for later engines....??

Where did all the type 3 engines go???

must be some somewhere....

alot are in buggies

i had a look at my 1835 today its built on a new replacement type3 style case and the old bug blocks dont even have the bosses for the late type 3 engine mount
not sure what year they started using the hanger in type 3s but that limits you to only early type 3s that can be swapped with bug motors

I have an adapter that fits onto the oil pump studs that allows the use of a beetle engine in a type 3 ie bolt on the later type 3 rear crossmember.

you still need the boss for the dipstick tube to bolt up to. You need to get the case machined flat and studs installed where it bolts up.
On a type 3 with no frame horns, I dont like the idea of the engine mount bolting to the oil pump studs.

you can still use beetle dip stick but just add an extension to it so you can reach it to check oil, you can also use the breather box as the filling point just take off plastic cap.
And yes bracket is dodgy and thats why I now have a subi turbo motor in place off the 3 x 1600s and 1800 kombi motor's i've been thru.
