I have just bought a 1973 baywindow type 2 that has a single port type 2 engine in it. my intentions are to put a type 3, dual port, dual carbie motor into it. My mechanic is not so sure on what problems will arise. can anyone tell whether it's possible and if so how they did it. if not what problems am i gonna find if i try to install it?

Please help, it needs to go in asap.

When you say Type 3, do you mean using the Type 3 fan and tin? If so, I don't think it will fit. You will need to convert to 'upright', beetle style tin that was also a feature of 1600cc Kombis. And I dunno if a single port Type 2 engine exists...?

Single port 1500 was used in late split buses. Type 3 motor will require the type 2 tinware, and some minor modifications to the case. No big deal, but you do need the bus-specific tin, which you should have after all. Not sure about the manifolds.

Every bus from the beginning was single port... until they went to twin port, which I think 68 was the beginning of twin ...
You can fit the engine, just convert it to upright, and modify the linkage to fit the dual carbs with the upright fan..
You need the dipstick to go in the type 3/ universal case, and if you dont have a tap for the oil pressure switch, you need to run it off the doghouse cooler.... thats about it.
