I have just replaced the throw-out bearing in my 62 trans.buggy with one that looks like it could have been made in Russia in the 30's.Supposedly it's a universal for all earlier model VW's.
it is a Sachs 111 141 165 A $50.Sounds german -hope so.
My problem is that the bearing is not centered over the shaft and i dont remeber if the old one was.
Does this make a difference?
Has any one had any experience with this model / make bearing?
I am not going to stick the engine back in until I get some feedback.
Appreciate any constructive comments.
sometimes they dont, you need to mess with the shims and circlips on the clutch arm shaft to centre it. A tiny bit off will be ok, but enough to make it press on one half of th pressure plate more than the other is not ok.
Did you buy a gold plated throw out bearing?!?
Maybe the price has gone up since I left the country!
Its worth spending a little time on to make sure its right.
Yep that did it!
I still would like to know though if anyone has used this brand of bearing.
I was quoted $35 over the phone but when a friend picked it up he was charged 50 clams.no choice as rego inspection due on friday and i am on the 3 month extension-i blow it and i will have to have the buggy go through engineering all over again.
sachs are fine. I have fitted plenty of them over the years. $35 is a little closer to reasonable, but at least you have it sorted....
