Off to HK and Beijing this weekend - any ideas?

Got to head over to HK and Beijing for 10 days for some work stuff. Going to try and hunt out the Moon Eyes site in HK if I can - unless anyone knows where it is. Will try and hunt out what other dub stuff I can find.

As for Beijing - thinking more along keeping it touristy. Got a weekend to kill there, so Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and hopefully The Great Wall are on the books.

Any other ideas?

no old VW stuff BUT lots of NEW VWs there everywhere

Tiannamen square is enormous, forbidden city even more so. They back onto each other luckily. Get an early start! Buy a street map off a little old lady as they are the most up to date, forget any guide book or internet map.

visit the silk market in Beijing: (divide by 6 for $AU)
shirts 35 yuan
pants 80-90 yuan
shoes 35-100 yuan
hoodies 80 yuan
Just remember the phrase "you are joking, I want Chinese price" and walking away is always good. The summer palace is also a tourist place. Allow 1 hour for the Forbidden City and Tian' Amen square. Bring prepackaged moist hand towels...they spit on Everything. I hope you like KFC and Maccas. The Great Wall has a nice "roller coaster". The pictures with the Mongolians at the Great Wall are not free. Don't get trapped into that one. Pedestrians do not have the right of way....seriously.

Been there a couple of times when bargaining if they say 300 you say 30 keep your offers as low as you can they normally come to theparty. Beer is good and cheap we paid 2 yuan for a tallie bout 40c oz buy from the supermarket not the hotels. Its normally room temp but if you ask they sometimes have cold Tsing Tao is best.
I bought 2x 2gig mem sticks for 60 aust dont be afraid to walk away let them fight against each other you get stuff cheaper!

if your wanting non vw stuff in hong kong (gods forbid) then head to the giant buddha statue just out of town. Its either 1.5 hours by ferry and bus or 45 mins via underground train. I would recommend the ferry as you get a good view of the city. When your finished with the buddha walk to the path of wisdom which is also there. Nice mate heres what you can see

first one is down town hong kong and the second one is down town hong kong at night. Third pic is giant buddha, fourth pic is path to wisdom and fifth pic is traditional buddist garden
i unfortunately did not see vw there at all 🙁
