Robots are programs that search forum threads for e-mail addresses, links to sites etc. Generally used by spam companies to gather e-mail addresses for spamming. Sometimes used by hackers to build remote networks for file/virus distribution.

This is why you should not enter your or anyone elses e-mail address as a hotlink.
