Perhaps you could come up with a precicely worded suggestion to how the "board rules" (link at the top under the AVD banner) could be amended.

As you'll all know there has been a lot of critical appraisal of the mod's actions lately and looking at the current rules, we would be acting outside the rules if we were to remove such comments.

Even though I've trie to do this in the past when reported or when I see it, we (as mods) are being watched like hawks now so I don't want to act outside my brief (ie. board rules).

Cheers
Alan

I believe there's button down the bottom that says "U2U". If you have to advise people, that is the best way. Negative comments just make people cranky. 😉

I recently bought a car for very nice money thank you very much and would have very much have appreciated a few timely negative comments if it saved me getting ripped ,which in spite of all my caution --I was---yup you guessed it--RIPPED
.:puke.
Never mind this u2u sweep it under the carpet nonsense--last time I looked this is a FORUM and if posts serve as advice to members that saves them pain be it fiscal or otherwise I for one see the outcome as being pretty bloody positive.
So IMO post it !

"ya pays ya money and ya takes ya chances"

or more like,
"you get what you pay for"

If a bargain looks to good to be true....it is.

i have to agree with bashodi this is afterall a forum primarily for ppl who love vw's not a paid advertising space there are as kookarmakombi pointed out plenty of other avenues where people can sell their cars without negative comments i personally have never had negative comments posted on any of my for sale ads and think if you are getting a lot of negative comments from experienced ppl take heed especially if its a "must sell yesterday" as crusing 69's was when he sold his bus
maybe there should be a paid section where ppl can advertise without recieving neg comments...... oh thats right there is carsales, e bay carpoint, trading post etc etc etc
its just a car for f*%k sake

try telling that to customs and revenue i have recently imported 4 manx's and they told me what they were worth (for tax duty)regardless of how much i paid for them also the insurance companies with whom i have insured the vehicles had their own valuer who told me what they were worth again irrespective of what i the buyer thought they were worth.luckily for me both of these worked in my favour as a 66 manx with a $10,000 subie and at least $15,000 of other mods is only worth $2,000 they are entitled to their opinion as for me selling at that price its totally up to me the seller to accept or decline

I believe if you aint gunna buy it, move on to the next one & keep your opinion to yourself.
I don't believe we should help them sell it unless you know the seller & the vehicle.

Any car is worth somewhere between what the seller wants & what a buyer is prepared to pay.
If the price is too high, they won't get a nibble, most people get the hint sooner or later.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.

Thanks for the site that allows people to advertise for (relatively hassle) free, I'm sure alot of great VW romances have been consumated as a result of this. Negative is negative and will be nothing more than that. Whose avatar or signature says "don't argue with an idiot...people may not know the difference" That's classic! Happy VW hunting 🙂

All true Pete --unfortunately--and without belabouring a point--A (paraphrased) quote from Steinbeck--:

" It is any mans right to commit suicide------but sometimes a friend can make it unneccessary"

And as an asside the seller is shortly about to find what the word " missrepresentation " actualy means in fiscal terms. .

Free Willy !

ha ha. 🙄

Look, I don't want to see anyone get ripped off, but by the same token, I don't want to see a repeat of the last "I'm peaved with someone who ripped me off so I'll take on the world" series of threads. So the easiest way to avoid that is to u2u people instead of making potentially defamatory comments on public threads. And really the comment you made above just adds weight to my argument I think.

To give you an example, only a month ago I started a new for sale thread for my car because a few people (one of whom is particularly renowned for making negative comment about my type of car) had said things that I didn't think at all helped the sale of my car. The upshot being that I was forced to ask a mod to delete the rest of posts so I could get rid of the old for sale thread altogether. The Mod in question did so straight away and I thank him for his help.

My point is, public as the forum might be, there is no need to publicly dis people or their cars. Firstly it's just plain rude and the motto about "doing unto others" comes to mind here. Secondly, if they are clowns, people will vote with their feet and their vehicles will not sell. Thirdly, because it is a public forum, it means that any private individual has the opportunity to advertise freely and should be allowed to do so.

Now, on the other hand, if someone does really rip you off, there are other channels that are legally appropriate for pursuing them with. Public slander on a forum is not one of them.

So let me reiterate. If someone has no idea and they are overpricing or being dishonest, a u2u to the person involved...and in the second situation, to a mod will fix the situation much faster than bagging the person/car publicly.

BTW, if you really think my car is too good to be true, please call me or U2U me and I'd happy to discuss it openly. Now you can't get better than that, can you, eh? :thumb

Make it a closed thread. Delete it when the car is sold or the author of the thread requests to have it taken off. Simple.

+1... i also laugh at the other extreme. when a member has an item for sale at a price (irrespective) and all their buddies come on saying "mate, too good... cant believe... what a bargain... should buy" . maybe jsut as bad as someone saying "not worth it!"

even more so when you see a vdub for sale at the most premium of price, and all their buddies telling every newbie to 'snap it up.'

Absolutely agree , these are the easy to recognise usual idiot posts, however the smarty's know this and are far harder to spot and often don't advertise on forums anyway--I wonder why?---couldn't be that the forum members are likely to get up them would it ?.
Perhaps in the interests of fairness it may be an idea for the moderators to examine some of the fairy tales masquerading advertisements when it comes to the cars for sale section (and perhaps for sale generaly) not just the mostly well intentioned members warning posts.
If there was a modicum less creative copy writing and a very large helping of tell the truth with some of these for sale posts there would be no need for unsolicited comments of any description --negative or otherwise, rather only genuine expressions of interest.
My 2 bobs worth fo today,
