Well there wasa real good turnout with some real nice looking cars but not a great deal at the swap meet but did manage to pick up another pedal car for only $10.

I just got back, but my camera died so no pics.

I won Best Baja though 😀

Not as many buggies this year, I guess the rain scared them away...

Apparently Tim with the Blue Baja won car of the day?!?!
I know it hasnt been built long, but it was built to thrash, so if it did win, then the crediblity of a public judged car show isnt real flash. There were plenty of cars that were much better, so why did this car win?

I know Tim, and am not knocking his car, but seriously it wasnt the best car there.

Did it really win?

It is quite amazing that a lot of people do not vote for car of the day. the votes for this car that won was under five points it may be that people should take the time to find the best car, but can not be bothered to go around the cars again to find that special car that should win the votes are not tamped with you just need a few friends to vote for you and it is amazing how the votes add up. if people have a problem with this then maybe they should vote properley. if people don't believe me then I have the voting forms here that they can have a look at.👎 This message comes from Eileen and not Andrew so if people want to have a go at this then it is me you have a go at.

Eileen, I'm not having a personal go at you or anyone, more of go at the system.....it worked well for a while, but its not really fair for those that put a lot of time and effort into making their cars special. Dubs by the Pub is a great event, but the people with the real show cars will probably not be bothered bringing out their cars when something like that happens.

I agree Graham. It's well organised and a credit to those that do. But why not have it a the Entertainment centre where every body congregates before the cruise. I think it has outgrown the pub. Not to mention the crap fight getting into the joint which is not the organisers fault but more the shear number of cars.

Maybe the voting form confused people. All the normal categories had boxes to put numbers in, but car of the day didn't. So maybe most people thought they weren't supposed to put a nomination in there (ie they thought a judge would judge it?).

Dunno, just guessing???

It is always strange when the car of the day doesn't win it's own class. There are some really sweet early kombis around these days, it's quite a competitive class and I think the car of the day would've come from that category...

Perhaps the Car of the Day can still have a public vote, but then the top 10 cars from this are judged by a panel for the final Car of the Day......

Sorry Graham I also agree with you about the cars that people put a lot of effort into getting them in top condistion and I hope they will still bring them out to show off. But when you have people choice it makes it harder to get people to fill in the forms, and no we do not have the people to judge the cars like action day. Its harder just to get members helping on the day.
The pub is the main attraction and the show that brings people in it has been going on now for eleven years. I know what a hassel it is in getting the cars in but at the moment the Bad liitle Bug-gers are not looking at changing venue. I just don't feel that the entertainment centre would have the same feel that we have at this point in time at the pub. And its a big thank you as vw drivers that have the patients to put up with us as we try and fit you in. Maybe in time we will have to change if we get any bigger but we just have to wait and see. EILEEN.

The cruise up to the Pub has been going since the early 90's, it used to be called the "Luv ya Bug" cruise, hence the date falling around Valentines Day.

It doesnt have to be Judges like Action Day. Perhaps a group can be organised within the organising comittee of the event itself......they only have a make a decision between the top 10 or top 5 cars that the public has judged to be car of the day.

Well done to all the organisers - no event will be without areas for improvement, but I feel when it comes to the crunch for the people with the "ideas of improvement" to do something and actively help, they seem to go missing.

It is sometimes similar with the forum, people are quick to bag, but not so quick to actually help solve the problem/s. It would be easier for the mods and admin of AVD to just walk away when the $hit hits the fan, but we don't because we enjoy providing the service for the VW community as a whole.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go at you guys for making comments as like the forum, shows need feedback to improve - but just remember the logistical nightmare it must be to organise a show of this magnitude. I think it is important to provide constructive criticism but also remember to give the occasional bit of praise as well.....I'm sure it would be easier for the organisers to just walk away, but they don't.

I have been involved in the running of this event about 10 years ago, so I know what is involved. I'm merely suggesting that perhaps Public voting has run its course
