Hi All

Merrily on my way to work the other day, the '69 bug decided it didn't want to play anymore.🙁
After trying to jump start it, to no avail, me and a mate decided we would tow it. Before we towed it, we thought to give it a push start and see if she would go. Well it did go but only for about 1.5km before it stopped again. When we were checking things out we took the dizzy cap off and I can move the rotor button and shaft 360 degrees with my finger. Now I know this should not be happening, however not sure of the cause. Has anyone else had this happen and if so how did you fix it?

Cheers

judys bug did that when we were heading up the coast once
turned out it was a combination of a badly shimmed 009 and the washers were missing out of the dissy drive when it was installed
so it meshed for a while then starting skipping occasionally till it had worn down the cogs

lesson learned - install both the dizzy drive washers LOL

Hey Pete

Haven't tried yet...too busy at work...I thought I would see if anyone else had had this exact problem and what they did....Will probably pull the dizzy out on Fri...Public Holiday..

I don't blame you mate, but moving to Canberra......nah just kidding...

It's great fun to work on the beetle, but I get the standard lecture...Don't bring grease into the house..

Talk soon

Hey Guys/Girls

I have a feeling that I have found my problem. In a nut shell on the bottom of the distributor shaft is two lugs. 1 seems partially ok, however the other seems very worn (my opinion). I have attached a photo (not great) but hopefully someone may be able to shed some light. The other thing that I had a look at as well is the model of the distributor. The markings are:

Make: Bosch
Model: JFUD 4 0231168005
Part: 021905205P

Looking on the internet, most things I find lead to this distibutor being from a 2000cc bus engine around 1974. As far as I am aware I have a 1600cc engine in a '69 beetle. Anyone now if this is the correct dizzy to be running??

Cheers

Adam

Cheers Greedy

I will look into it. Did you have to replace the whole dizzy or were you able to replace the lugged piece on the bottom??

Hey Guys

Thanks for all the advice. Went and seen Gunter at Continental Motors in Darwin today, who gave me a broken dizzy with the pieces that I needed. Basically the rubber washer in between the steel washer at the bottom of the housing had completely worn away so that allowed the dizzy shaft to move up and down. Similar to what Joel said. So will replace that and the cog piece tomorrow and should be all good.

Cheers
