Hey All,
Have just put a diffrent motor into a Baja.It wont idle.Carbi is a Bugspray.I have cleaned the fuel lines out, installed a new filter,is running a new electric fuel pump.It will run if you rev it.ie pump the ecelerater pump but when u try to idle it down it just dies at about 1700rpm.I have tryed 2 diff inlet manifolds,2 diffrent carbis. The only sure symtom is the fuel pump is running all the time.Old one used to slow down when the bowl was full.I have rebult the carb, set the float level, installed new needle and seat and dissasembled and blew out with compressed air.It is also running a pressure reg that i have tryed at every setting.oh and yes it has 20ltrs of fuel in it.Any ideas?
cheers
Never ran a bugspray but have heard they are pigs at the best of time - let alone winter.
Try a Pict first
Futue te ipsum!!!
have u tried a stock carby and manafold to try to rule out the carby?
are your valves set properly?
is the carby tuned? (not meaning to insult you)
have you got a mechanical pump u can try?

Lohoon,
Is an electric choke fitted, and second does it work? You should be able to get some sort of idle, Holleys are pretty good in that department.
Have you removed the mixture screws and checked the holes through to the carb barrells?
Does yours run a power valve? They are notorious for blowing out with a backfire.
Have you sprayed every orifice with carby cleaner and then blown them out?
Check for flooding too, with the air filter off. Look at the booster nozzles for dripping or from the bowl vent tube.

Yeah it has an electric choke. Its not wired up.I have removed eveything in the carbi, gave them all a spray with carbi cleaner and blew it out with air.It doesnt run the power valve set up. I thought it was flooding. And there was dripping booster nozzles. When you pumpd the xclratr pump the nozzles were dripping so i bought a carbi kit and that fixed that.I have a mechenic mate who i got to come have a look and he dismatled the carbi again and cleaned it etc.so i m 90% the carb is clean at least!
Stll no idea why the fuel pump runs flat out all the time.
Thanx for all suggestions guys.
ps i have the mixture screws set at 1.5 turns out
Go n see Rodney Farrell he luvs Bug Sprays
Lohoon,
So you've locked the choke plate wide open? And made sure the link rod to the fast idle cam plate is holding the plate out of the way of your idle screw?
Another thing to check is your float. shake it to see if there's fuel inside it or dunk it into some hot water and see if air bubbles stream out.

Yeah checked float an seem s good.Set the float level. The choke is spring loaded open.
I'm going to check and renew all the fuel lines(rubber ones and hoseclamps) i'm thinking there is a air leak somewhere.I don't think the carbi is gettin enough fuel.
And Rodney is on a looong holiday.Around Australia.Besides he's not that mechanically minded from what i 've had to do with him.(no Disrespect intended)
