My 76 cabrio bonnet hinges have been bent as my bonnet flew up on me at 100ks!!! As it is a karmann, just wondering if depending on the damage, is it best to bend them back or do i replace them? If replacement, can i just replace them with any other late model bonnet hinges? Any help would be great. Thanks
I love 1303's but i HATE the hinges
You can TRY and get some good condition new hinges
IF it is the old hinges are OK i would disconnect the bottom hinge and weld on a gas strut.
Just use the stock hinge as a hinge - not a spring.
Get in cionatct with 1303 Steve. I believe he has been looking at gas struts on the hood.

Hi Cab1303
Its pretty unusual for the bonnet to fly up, the air pressure normally pushes them down. About all you can do is look for some good 2nd hand one with straight springs.
I see that you've posted on one of my other favourite VW sites, Superbeetles only. Do a search over there on hinges and you will see what has been happening. The clip that the hinge pivots on is the biggest concern, it pops off which can really damage the body work around the front scuttle panel. I believe that springs bending is a result of the movement in the hinge in 1st place.

The Kab hinges and Stocker Bug ones should be the same
Thanks for the help i will have a good look at them to check the springs/damage, etc. Yes superbeetles only website is great, wish we had topline over here.
